Macbook Pro Touch Bar, fully specced out, in clamshell mode on a BookArc. Two Thunderbolt displays mounted onto pneumatic monitor arms connected to a UPLIFT standing desk (72" x 30", 4 power plugs). 4 extra drive bays at Thunderbolt speeds thanks to ThunderBay 4.

Two AudioEngine speakers and a Polk Audio Subwoofer always playing the many study/programming Spotify playlists available. Apogee Duet 2 & Pioneer HDJ-2000 when I really need to get into the zone.

A 3D printed capture of my girlfriend as my rubber ducky debugging tool. HiRise iPhone/iPad stand for easier on-device debugging. Das Keyboard Ultimate 4 for the blank keycap street-cred and so I can be heard typing anywhere in the house. Magic Trackpad 2, Griffin PowerMate for assigning to tasks like stepping over/in, relaunching a single test case, etc. TUL pen and Post-Its for fast note taking. Wall calendar, whiteboard, and cork board for keeping track of projects, putting up notes, and the good feeling that comes from having a physical Kanban board. Desk plant because I've heard having plants in your office increases productivity.

Could I get better desktop speakers then the Audio Engine A2+W for the price? (£215) , the built in USB DAC looks like a selling point to me, will it make a lot of difference?

(I currently have the cheap Logitech Z506)

Pretty much stay away from anything that is a 2.1 system, such as the Klipsch you mentioned. Also, definitely stay away from Logitech.

Let me make that Micca setup 'plug n play' for you.

Going from your computer, use this cable to plug into this amplifier. Then, use these cables to plug the amp into the speakers. In the long run, you're pluging two more things in than you would if you were plugging in just a pair of powered speakers.

Basically, a speaker that you want doesn't exist. Something the same size as your Logitechs, has a subwoofer, has a headphone output, and sounds good, all for under $140 just isn't a thing. The setup I mentioned is the closest you'll get. You can add a subwoofer if you need to in the future.

I'll list a few options that do fit everything you want, except for budget:

Micca OoO - They're small and will fit. Topping MX3 - Amplifier with a headphone out. Dayton SUB-800 - the cheapest subwoofer you can buy.

Audioengine A2+ - Small speakers. The problem, however, is that speakers don't have headphone outputs. So, you'd need to do that manually. Schiit SYS - output switcher. Send one signal to the speakers and the other to an amp for your headphones.

What I'm trying to get at here is that you don't really have a 'perfect' solution to your problem. The first one I linked to with the Miccas is probably your best bet.

Audio Engine A2+ with a Roth Audio OLI K30 subwoofer. They are truly amazing. You can see full specs here

They are these Audioengine ones they are pretty nice, but I really just loved how sleek they look!

u/AddMeOnReddit · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I don't think they're studio monitors. They look like Audio Engine A2+'s.
If you want some good monitors with good looks I recommend the Yamaha HS5's.

Thanks! They're Audioengine A2+

The problem with wireless- whether it's BT or AirPlay- is that there will be latency issues which isn't good if you intend to use the speakers for music/audio production.

You're better off with a wired system. Get a tabletop or tiny powered bookshelf speakers. The one I'm using with my iMac/MacBook setup is a pair of Audio Engine A2+. It's not cheap but they're fairly loud and do sound great especially for the size (14cm tall x 11 cm wide x 16 cm deep or 5.5" x 4.3" x 7.2").

I'm not too fluent on this all, but the Audioengine 2+ are very compact in terms of monitors. Being the type of speakers they are, they still have a space of 6.3 inches x 5.51 inches x 4.33 inches, but this is much smaller than standard. They are known for lackluster bass due to their smaller size, but that's probably the best you can get for something so tiny.

u/RootScript · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

@r4bbl3d4bbl3 - I've been searching for a similar 'compact desktop setup'. I settled for the Audio Engine A2+ speakers, that have the amp built in as well as the DAC. There is also an output to plug in a sub.
If you want to add headphone output you could add the Audioengine D1 DAC (which is tiny, and has a better DAC).
The A2+ speakers are tiny, and it makes for a really compact system as the amp + DAC are built in.
The SMSL Q5 Pro was on my list too, but by the time I added some passive speakers it would have cost more & mean having another 'box' on my desktop.

I have a pair of Audioengine A2+ which I'm very happy with. You can certainly get better sound for less money, but I valued the size, form, and built in DAC, as I have a minimalist looking rig, and try and have as few items on my desk as possible.

It's certainly worth doing a bunch of research before going for it. Good audio equipment should far outlast your rig.

u/helloforrest · 1 pointr/battlestations

Please help me with some ideas to hide those cables. Need speakers but wondering if I should go wireless or if there would be a way to hide the wires if I get some audioengine a2+'s. System: Ryzen 5 1600, EVGA 120mm aio cooler, 16gb G Skill RGB RAM, Thermaltake RGB 650W PSU, RX 580, Core P1 Case. Picked this background in great part bc link reflects off the case from the angle I sit at.

I'm looking to get some good speakers since my current ones has to be like 10 years old by now and I'm doing some upgrades across the board for my setup.

I'm currently looking at these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audioengine-A2-Powered-Desktop-Speakers/dp/B00FE9XGVM

https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1497382919&sr=1-1&keywords=edifier+r1280t

Any recommendation? The Audioengine A2's are a lot more expensive but I'm not sure why and I've seen the Edifier speakers on multiple top speaker lists.

I'm looking for some small ones that I can have on my desk that doesn't require a big/any sub woofer.

Is this a decent initial set up? Thank you!!!

I want to get a decent first set up, without spending a crazy amount of money...
I am just making sure that if I get these 3 things I will be able to play my vinyl and have decent quality for the price...

Thank you!!

You can try wall mounting some speakers. Mount the speakers above your monitors, and face them downward.

I think the Audioengine A2+ will compliment your setup well!

u/gotmoveslikejagger · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I see you copping that END action 😎

Absolutely love the aesthetics of your room. If you're ever planning on getting new speakers, I'd highly recommend the white Audioengines, I think they'd go great with your setup.
