AT -> PS2 -> Blue Cube -> USB A to C adapter?

I don't know if this Frankenstein monster will work. It should, but...

Aukey 2-pack of adapters is $6.49 on Amazon and people say it works with the Switch. I personally use the adapter that came with the Google Pixel.

I'm using this and passthrough does work. It's the only way I could get anything to work really, my motherboard's USB controller is awful so I have to rely on the gpu's USB C.

> I have to carry and plug in a hub every single time I want to authenticate with my Yubikey or have my MacBook back up to my WD MyBook

Depending on your needs, perhaps not a hub, but yes, I totally agree that it should have been two such plugs, especially given that it doubles as the power supply port.

If I were running design, I'd have put in two, and/or sold a PSU that doubled as a USB-A hub.

> We only recently got USB-A 3.0 widely accepted and adopted

Because nobody used it, because nobody had support for it, because nobody used it, because...

Apple's attempting to break people out of that viscous cycle, by forcing people to use USB-C. Apple has been pushing tech (or at least attempting to) for a while. This is just another example.

...but I still think it should have two USB-C ports, one on each side.

Get a USB-C to USB adapter like this and connect to the mixer via usb. Then use some sort of recording software (Audacity is free) to record your mix. Also, the 3.5mm port appears to be a headphone out only.

I have been using the AUKEY Adapter for 3/4 months now and haven't had any issues, its very simple and just works. https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapter-2-Pack-MacBook-Samsung/dp/B01AUKU1OO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503516252&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=USB+A+to+USB+C&psc=1

As for stutter, uninstall all the bloatware that MSI bundled with the computer.

u/squirrelist · 2 pointsr/applehelp

You may want one of these. Much more compact than Apple's USB-A to C adapter.

With the 12-inch MacBook, I'd get the latest you can. The processor is a little underpowered compared to the rest of the lineup, so a more recent model might mean the machine is usable for longer.

That being said, if you're already looking at the MacBook, then it's probably a good machine for you. You're going to be familiar with the tradeoffs (nothing a good docking station or set of adapters can't mitigate). I'm not going to defend the 11-inch Air; mine is a 13-inch and I love it, but if portability is your primary concern, then you can't get much more portable than the MacBook.

u/Jhubbz86 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

yeah, I'd just get something like this and pay the extra few bucks.

edit: Although for some reason what I linked fails Fakespot miserably...

I have a bunch of these for my MBP, they work great and are small enough to keep attached to the cable

u/entmike · 1 pointr/macbookpro

I bought 2 Aukey adapters and they were absolute shit. They wiggle too much inside the USB-C and constantly drop in/out of connection. If they weren't so cheap, I'd return them.

Shitty ones I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AUKU1OO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another reason those adapters are shitty is you are trading one USB-C/Thunderbolt port for a USB 3.0 port when you could really get a lot more. Shit, the more I think about it, the more I'm pissed I even picked them up at all :)..

But moving on...

I picked up this USB-C hub for travel reasons:

https://www.hypershop.com/collections/usb-type-c/products/hyperdrive-hub-for-usb-c-macbook-pro-13-and-15-2016-2017

I like it because it attaches physically without dangling off of the side of the laptop. It costs more than many you will see on Amazon but I think for two reasons. 1) It's a near-match of the color of the MacBook and made of aluminum so it doesn't feel cheap, and 2) It has HDMI-out since, you know, not everybody has thunderbolt/display ports in 2017, especially if you travel to different locations, HDMI is good to have as an option.

Next, I picked up this enclosure for SDD sata drives:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0716LDKDC/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I popped a 1TB drive in there, and that's where I put my stuff that doesn't need to be on my 512GB drive 24/7. Even VMs run fine from it.

And on a whim, I picked this one up, too:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071DPYR9B/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Why? 3 more USB ports doesn't hurt (the hub mentioned first only gives 2), and it has an Ethernet jack, in those few cases where there's no wifi.

u/deliriousidoit · 1 pointr/mac

I'm assuming you knew that the new macbooks came only with USB-C connectors when you bought it? Why is this coming as a shock to you now? Honestly, yes, it's a bit stupid that Apple's flagship phone and flagship laptop can't connect to each other, but it's paving the way for the USB C future that is inevitable.

Buy an adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapter-MacBook-Google-OnePlus/dp/B01AUKU1OO/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1482717406&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+c+to+usb+3.0

2 for 7 dollars right here. Or you can buy the USB-C to lightning cable from Apple. Or you can buy the Apple USB-C to USB adapter. You have a plethora of cheap options, most of which don't involve giving Apple more money via iCloud or adapters if that's your current beef with them.

u/omair94 · 1 pointr/oculus

I looked at your laptop online, it has a thunderbolt 3 port on the back. You can use that as another USB 3.0 port. So you just buy these: https://smile.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapter-2-Pack-MacBook-Samsung/dp/B01AUKU1OO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1502288125&sr=8
and you should then have 2 ports from these adapters and 2 port already part of your PC.

u/ZedOud · 1 pointr/splatoon

For anyone that has an Ethernet to USB2/3 adapter consider buying a USB3 to USBC adapter.

I've tested plugging them directly into the switch and it works.

Why get it? Maybe a LAN party where you don't want to or can't bring a TV and the dock? Why not? Probably be useful for future Switch accessories like the possibility of a GameCube adaptor plus hub working with it.

u/avantbored · 1 pointr/Dell

Doesn't matter which dongle (I have 3; Aukey hub, Dell-provided, and small Aukey ones) I use. Same issue.

I usually these, because they're easier to transport, and I can leave them attached to my flash drives: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapter-MacBook-Chromebook-Pixelbook/dp/B01AUKU1OO.

But again, the problem persists regardless of the dongle.

u/alllmossttherrre · 1 pointr/macbookpro

>Already looking to an adapted for USB and that’s really it for now.

There are two kinds of USB-C to USB-A adapters. The very compact type, and the cable type. The very compact type is nice because they're so small, but the problem they have is sometimes they're so wide the block the next port. The cable type of adapter should not have that problem because the USB-C end is kept narrow.

The nice thing about both is that they are now extremely inexpensive, now well below $10 for a 2-pack.

You don't even need a OTG cable. I have something like this that I use to connect flash drives to my pixel. You can probably use the built in file browser to copy your pictures, but I'd recommend using a file manager app like File Commander.

u/zMattyPower · 1 pointr/oculus

Ok, this could work for the Virtual Link port?

u/stranded_meerkat · 1 pointr/wacom

Glad to help. Since the MSP has all USB-C you'll need an adapter, but that should be easy. I use this one with my Cintiq Pro: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapter-MacBook-Chromebook-Pixelbook/dp/B01AUKU1OO

u/KnuxFive · 1 pointr/macbook

I picked up this one in the same situation. Didn’t even think about it it could POWER my external disc drive.

AUKEY USB C Adapter, [2 Pack] USB C to USB 3.0 Adapter Compatible with MacBook Pro 2017/2016, Google Chromebook Pixelbook, Samsung Galaxy S9 S8 S8+ Note8, Google Pixel 2/2XL - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AUKU1OO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3Qx-BbXNZ0AVX

I know it’s not my “major” dock, but it looked affordable enough for my laptop bag, and Aukey’s reliable in my experience.

u/throwley · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hey guys, I'm planning on playing smash in tabletop mode with the wiiu gamecube adapter. I got an hori playstand and an aukey USB-C converter (it's not a cable, it's one of those: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Adapter-MacBook-Chromebook-Pixelbook/dp/B01AUKU1OO/ ) and I wondered if there's any risk while using it, because I heard of chargers/docks using the usb c port bricking the switch, but I found nothing about these converters (even though I'm guessing it's fine because the gc adapter shouldn't use much power, if any at all). Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah you can use a type c to USB type a adapter to get the "regular port"

I don't know about wireless stuff with good mics

u/ArghRoadcam · 1 pointr/Dashcam

Typically when people are able to do this, it's because their cam has a WiFi feature that allows them to connect their phone to download files.

Without such a feature, you can still copy footage for people easily enough - if your phone supports "OTG" / "USB host mode" – most phones these days do – you can buy dongles for like $10 apiece that allow you to plug in the microSD card and a full sized thumb drive.

u/tomatogoatee · 1 pointr/wacom

That model, unfortunately, does not support Bluetooth. (Gotta love those proprietary communication methods. Thankfully, the latest generation tablets DO have native BT support.)

There's two solutions for you. Either get a USB-C to mini USB cable and use the tablet wired. Or, if you would prefer the wireless option, you'd need to get either a USB-C to A adapter (which seem to want to come in pairs for some reason) or hub that has standard ports. (If you have a Samsung S8, S9, Note 8, or Note 9, you should have a C to A adapter in the box.)

There is a third option, but I don't know if you're interested in buying a current generation Intuos tablet just yet. ;)

u/kcorsetto · 1 pointr/audioengineering

Hi all –

I just got a Tascam US-1800 (current model is 16x08, US-1800 is discontinued) - hoping to use it to record my drums into my 2016 MacBook Pro. The Tascam is meant to connect via USB B (like a printer) to USB A 2.0, but my Mac only has USB C. Also, the drivers for the US-1800 are only tested with older versions of Mac OS.

All that to say: I'm having trouble getting it to connect to my Mac, and I'm wondering if anyone has ideas as to what might be the issue. I've tried with adding an adapter to the cable that came with the interface, plus trying a whole new cable, and neither of those have worked. I've installed the latest version of Tascam's driver, but still no luck.

Any thoughts on what could be happen, and/or if this connection is even possible?

Thanks!

I don't doubt that Windows PCs will have USB-A style ports for years to come. But I do think that most flagship PCs will switch to USB-C as the primary port much sooner. In 3 or 4 years, I suspect that the only computers still using USB-A will be cheap, underpowered devices. It was no different when PS/2 was phased out of the industry.

Also, no one is going to throw away their USB-A stuff! Are you crazy? Just get one of these little adapters. They're $9 for a two-pack on Amazon. Stick 'em on the end of the cord and forget about it.

I have a new Alienware 17R4 that has the usb-c connectors, and I was able to make everything work using this adapter. I don't think that you would want a hub. I have the rift headset plugged into the HDMI and the usb-c on the back of the laptop using the linked adapter, and then I have the two sensors plugged into the usb 3.0 ports on either side, and my rift+touch work great.
