If you are not very allergic I would honestly add a little drop of the oil (I get it in Whole Foods or offline) to your favorite clarifying. I would recommend peppermint or eucalyptus too. When I say "a drop", I mean, add and mix a tablespoon of oil into a 3 oz of clarifying or maybe your favorite scalp-soothing shampoo (e.g., Neutrogena T gel shampoo, which may be a good bet by itself, but even I find it harsh, and I have a very oily scalp).

Do you have seborrhic dermatitis?

Keep this in mind--the coconut/lavender/"greasy" oils are moisturizing; tea tree and peppermint oils work like salicylic acid (something I use on my skin) to dry up itchy wounds.

Side note: thanks to antibiotics, I've become to allergic to everything I used to be able to use easily, even zinc in dandruff shampoo, which is what I used to do to deal with itchy, oily scalp. The first time around, if I were you, I would only wash the revamped shampoo into my crown--don't do what I do and flip your head over or let it get into your face until you know how you react. Maybe even heavily dilute it with your base shampoo alone, then add the jazzed up stuff only to the crown.

The thing that makes Head and Shoulders gunky now is that awful dimethicone they started putting in it years ago. DHS is one dandruff shampoo brand that includes zinc without that.

I would also add that if your hair is severely damaged (like, split ends) that exacerbates the problem and makes it brittle.

I do have a similar problem so apart from using a teeny, tiny drop of Nizoral shampoo or DHS dandruff shampoo (zinc with no dimenthicone) in Suave clarifying, I think I will start spritzing a little avocado oil on my split ends, too.

For actual tea tree oil shampoos, I would go natural. Here's a cheap one I see in Whole Foods (haven't tried it).

That's in a pump bottle.

This is a brand I very much want to try but am too scared to because of those aforementioned allergies; you might fare better. http://www.amazon.com/Avalon-Organics-Scalp-Normalizing-Shampoo/dp/B000IZ8KZ4/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1416088558&sr=1-1&keywords=avalon+organics+tea+tree&pebp=1416088560424

Redken makes some cucumber/tea tree based shampoos I'd planned on trying if you want to Google.

And finally, Trader Joe's makes an okay cheap knockoff of Giovanni Triple Tingle, but my hair is kinda smelly the day after I use it. It provides temporary relief but doesn't clean well.

ETA: Iherb or vitacost has all the "natural" brands for pretty cheap, but I'd say in terms of selection, they're about as good as Amazon.

Yeah I get that. She was feral and is about 2 years old, so there's a good chance she didn't have a previous owner even briefly. That said, I use pretty high quality shampoo and soap, so it's unlikely someone else used it.

The one thing I realized last night was that my normal shampoo (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000IZ8KZ4) has mint in it, and mint is in the same family as catnip, which means some cats go a bit crazy over it. I tried not using it when I showered last night, and did not see the aggression. That said, I also didn't let her in the bathroom until I was fully dried off.
