I think they would shy away from that because Avengers: Assemble was the name of The Avengers (2012) in the UK.

You probably first saw these in other countries. American movies often get title changes for non-American markets, as some phrases don't translate properly.

For once the BBFC had nothing to do with the cut. I believe what we are getting is a general Euro release and the cuts have come from Germany.
What really sucks is the removal of the Joss Whedon commentary and deleted scenes in the extras, there's probably more missing from it.
So fuck you Disney.

EDIT: the differences between US 2-disc and UK/Eire Blu-ray.

US version:

  • 1 Blu-ray and 1 DVD Disc
  • Audio Commentary by Director Joss Whedon
  • “Assembling the Ultimate Team”
  • “A Visual Journey”
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Marvel One-Shot: Item 47
  • Second screen
  • Gag reel
  • Soundgarden music video - “Live to Rise”
  • the tip of Loki's staff when he penetrates Coulson.

    UK & Ireland version

  • 1 Blu-ray (the 2 disc isn't available)
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Gag Reel
  • Marvel One-Shot: item 47
  • A Visual Journey

Pity they fucked up the UK release so badly that I'm having to import the blu-ray from the States.

The UK blu-ray is missing the Joss Whedon commentary.

The documentary on the US disc is an exclusive feature in the UK only available if you buy the disc from Sainsbury's (one of our supermarket chains).

You can't buy a combo pack with both the DVD and the blu-ray.

Finally (and worst of all) the film has a scene that has been censored.

The film is sitting at three stars on Amazon UK because of the above.
