I started off with a book like this. Because the Peterson Field Guide was too overwhelming at first.

It helped me learn about some of the plants I could already identify visually. Keep practicing and keep exploring, get more books, and soon you'll be the expert

Many herbs-- in addition to offering flavoring, vitamins and minerals, many have antibiotic/ antiviral/ antifungal properties and other medicinal uses. Also the umbellifers (anise, caraway, dill, fennel) and the spiky flowered ones (mints, sage, oregano) are great for encouraging pollinators and predatory insects to hang around your garden.

Blueberries, currants and strawberries.

Non-Perennials: Scarlet Runner Beans and Hyacinth Beans are highly ornamental climbers. Nasturtiums are showy and both flowers and leaf are delicious.
