This book is highly rated by critics and fairly straight-forward. It would be a good jumping off point but I would recommend reading more to get a balanced picture.
There are two books worth reading in this regard:
The Builders about the property boom of the mid-2000s (and how it was almost entirely financed by overzealous foreign investment).
and The Bankers about how the bank-level decisions regarding said property boom were really, really bad.
