Ah, my time to shine. First, if you find yourself invested in the show or have any future questions, feel free to jump over to r/BSG where Battlestar fans go to talk about the show.

So first things first, there was the original Battlestar Galactica series back in 1978 but the 2005 're-imagined' series is an entirely different take on the show. That is, you don't need to have watched the original series to enjoy the 2005 series because it isn't a continuation of the series, it's a brand new take on the old one.

The first thing you should watch is the two part mini-series (this is a link to it on Prime). This was made before the show was picked up to be a series so it works as an introduction to everything and it's a vital piece of viewing before diving into the series proper. I found it on Prime for you, but it appears they have combined both episodes together which clocks in at just over 3 hours. Hopefully they provide a natural stopping point in case you don't want to commit to a 3 hour long show in one sitting.

Once the show got picked up to be series, the episode "33" is a direction continuation of what happened in the miniseries. "33" is the first episode of the first season and from there it's pretty straight forward. 4 seasons in all. There are three TV movies that also came out that expands on the series but it's worth finding out if you can get invested in the series first. If you find yourself wanting to dive more into the show after completing the series, I'd highly recommend checking them out.

The thing about Battlestar is that, people go in with certain expectations of it being another sci-fi show, but it's really more of a human drama that just happens to take place in space. It's a very grounded series that does what sci-fi does best; introspection of the human condition. I'm truly excited for you, even if you're generally not a fan of Sci-fi. It's a sublime experience that really hit the right notes for a lot of people and really reinvigorated the idea of what sci-fi can truly be.

Edit: Cleaned up a sentence that was worded in an odd way.

"EP zero" would be the mini-series, which is absolutely essential to watch before Season 1 Episode 1. Unfortunately, it's twice the price of all of season 1 right now: link

There's a four-episode miniseries before the first episode.

It's on there, watched it the other day, it's separate from the main show though I believe, says like "Battlestar Galactica Mini Series 2003" or something like that.

EDIT: Here ya go
