I once used a lot of moleskines. I'm assuming the person is familiar with and possible has them. I got something like this for myself in the past to create titles / labels on them:

You'll need a tiny hammer to to help stamp into the leather.

I think that using this and a plate of metal is a better and cheaper form of cold storage.
