I have 4 Daydream headsets because I develop for VR. (I actually have multiple Daydream capable phones. 1x Axon 7, 1x Zenfone AR, 1x Pixel 1, 1x Pixel 3, 3x Moto Z2 Forces and 1x Galaxy S9). I also have a number of Cardboard headsets I can use (but I like just the Daydream View without the controller). Plus I have 2 Gear VR setups (for S9 and S6)

Unfortunately the issue with Daydream isn't Google, it's their hardware partners. Few seem to be submitting devices for Daydream certification. Few seem to care about smartphone based VR anymore.

However that's not the end of the world because Cardboard is still supported. So all of these devices can do mobile VR, just without a motion controller. So my game will likely support a standard controller in addition to the daydream controller and fallback method for "flat" gaming mode for VR gamers.

I'm sure Google will continue to support VRCore and Daydream devices for a while. Though I don't expect a lot of new features added. But there's not a lot more than be done for 3DoF VR, it's a mature platform now.

---

Personally I'm hoping they just merge WorldSense support into the Pixel 4 (leveraging the rumors dual camera) and release a new Daydream for roomscale. But Google's been burn ed by enough partners it just might not be worth it.

I bought 2 Beboncool controllers from amazon recently (to test them and see which I like more, perhaps give 1 to a friend). There's a $25 one (small red) and a $35 one (better for bigger hands). I read great reviews about them both. They work flawlessly with all the games I've tried them on and they feel good in your hands, too. I see sites pushing the Stratus XL $70 controller but it's just not necessary to spend that much for a comfortable, functional Bluetooth controller.

Any bluetooth controller that has support for Android/IOS will work with Minecraft PE. I personally use this one but anything like it will suffice.

I bought this cheapo no-brand controller and its suprised me how decent it is. It's like, really freaking good. Only downside is that it doesn't vibrate. I also recommend 8bitdo stuff, haven't been dissapointed by them.

u/not_a_toad · 3 pointsr/GearVR

Just adding my two cents because I see this one get recommended a lot: I had one and it was absolutely terrible. Did all the troubleshooting, updated firmware, sent it in for replacement, to no avail. It was a nightmare.

The problem I had with it is the triggers were waaay too sensitive (you can modify sensitivity on Windows with the SteelSeries Engine, but there is no configuration utility for Android, and the profile is not actually saved on the controller, as far as I can tell, because making adjustments in the Engine on Windows had no effect when using the controller on Android). Couldn't, for example, play Minecraft because the left trigger would be constantly activated, so anywhere I looked would fill up with blocks.

Other people will tell you it's fine and they never had problems. But like I said, I sent it in for a replacement, same issues. I do not trust SteelSeries to produce consistently good quality controllers.

Ended up getting a cheap controller off of Amazon; no problems whatsoever. So now, not only do I know SteelSeries has shitty (in my personal experience) QA, but they are horrendously over-priced.

I bought this cheap controller a couple years ago for my GearVR

It has the same button configuration of an Xbox controller, although the bumpers are on the back, and while it certainly feels cheaper, I now not only use it with the Go but I use it more on my PC than my old wired 360 controller.

u/the_hillshire_guy · 3 pointsr/AndroidGaming

I just got this and like it a lot

u/Keule9911 · 3 pointsr/AndroidGaming

I just got the same controller off Amazon and was debating returning it and picking up one of these instead. I just can't seem to get a comfortable grip. It feels like the sticks are too close to the base of my thumbs and I have to reach back.

I've had two MOGA controllers. The original was a nice form factor (similar to the beboncool) but had super shitty analog sticks and wasn't hid. The pro one I have also stopped working as an hid controller.

u/DovaKroniid · 2 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

Ooooh, ok. Sorry about that, my mistake.

For a relatively budget option I like Bebencool's wireless controller (Amazon). It's a really good price, and all of the buttons on it are solid. I think it feels just a little bit cheap, but it is cheap and the build quality isn't bad at all.

And, as a weird coincidence that I didn't even realize, it actually supports wired as well as Bluetooth if you actually wanted to do what I first misinterpreted.

Emulators: Dolphin (Gamecube) (get it on official Dolphin website) works nicely, Nintendo DS works great, PSP (play store) as well.

use a PS4 controller or get this

The design might throw you off at first but I actually really enjoy it and it's small footprint which is perfect for on-the-go/pocket gaming.

u/brassh0nkey · 2 pointsr/nostalgia

There are bluetooth controllers available that have a cradle for your phone. I use this one.

u/Old-Bull-Lee · 2 pointsr/PS4

I got the red and black Beboncool from Amazon. $19 . I have medium sized hands and it fits my hands great. Seems well made and the battery lasts I think around 8 hrs of play. Plus I can connect it to my PC to play emulators on there as well. Only had it for a couple weeks but so far I've had no problems with it.

I bought this 20$ bluetooth one on Amazon. I believe it's this one. Keep in mind while it works great, it's not the same build quality as an xbox one or ps4 controller.

Have you seen the GP2X Caanoo?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAANOO

It runs emulators and has a home brew community. It's been discontinued, so I always wanted to find something like this again that's still being produced.

Back in the day I was interested in the GP32, but couldn't justify the purchase myself, because I had another handheld. The Caanoo is a successor. As soon as I wanted to buy one, they were discontinued.

Emulation aside, I was always interested in the Sega Nomad.

Android might be an okay option. You can get a game pad that holds the Android device. Here's an example:

I prefer the telescopic style that holds the phone in the center of the controller, like the one in the first link. I have seen that particular one on Amazon but don't know anything else about it, seems a bit on the expensive side.

I have an Ipega 9023 https://www.amazon.com/Extendable-Controller-Portable-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B016HPV5OG/
It's big enough for a tablet and works fine for a phone, but it is bulky for on the go.
The Ipega 9055 is going to be much more compact since it is geared towards phones, I plan on picking one up soon.
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ipega+9055

I also have a Bounabay Telescopic that is nice and compact. It worked great, however after 9 months of hard use it has crapped out. https://www.amazon.com/Bounabay-Wireless-Telescopic-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B06XKSNCTM/

The Moga controller - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FB5RBJM/
and one similar to it - https://www.amazon.com/BEBONCOOL-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Emulator/dp/B0171JGYF2/

I have a Gamesir G3s that is really great because it works with bluetooth on the phone or with the included wireless adapter on PC https://www.amazon.com/GameSir-G3s-Bluetooth-Controller-Smartphone/dp/B019II3I4E/

These controllers will work with emulators no problem as well as native android games that support controllers: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidGaming/comments/80mpfi/gamedevice_suggestion_requests_support_and/dv2ps3u/

u/estish14 · 1 pointr/PickAnAndroidForMe

got it. in that case, i'd go with the s8 since it's objectively the better phone. you could try out something like this https://www.amazon.com/BEBONCOOL-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Emulator/dp/B0171JGYF2/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_63_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=9XXDF85Y3Z8XEPHTVRS3&th=1

I'm using this for my phone (Moto 3rd gen):

And this for my tablet (Google Nexus 2012):

https://www.amazon.com/PG-9023-Telescopic-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B00RE6FMD8/

Both worked out-of-the box for me. I can't guarantee it would be the same for you of course, but at least in my case no root or anything of the like was required.

I recently purchased the BEBONCOOL Bluetooth controller off of Amazon for use on my Z2 Play, and am very happy with it so far. The thumb sticks feel great, although I find myself wishing they had a lower profile sure to start and select button placement.

Yo! What have you guys been playing? Curious to see. Tell me everything! Anyone use controller adapters for phones like this one or is that mostly just unnecessary?

Mainly I'm looking for ideas on what to play on my phone...specifically at the Gym (makes exercise go quicker and is much more bearable!). Has to be something I can look away from for a while if necessary, ie something that doesn't need constant attention.

I picked one of these up a year or so ago and haven't had any issues with it at all. I love the small yet comfortable form factor. I've never noticed any lag on it the entire time I've used it. It even has a clip that you can flip up to hold your phone and a mouse function built into it too

u/xxTheGoDxx · 1 pointr/Games

While this is really cool to build stuff around and play with in a sense of hacking hard- and software, everybody who thinks about buying this or something similar to actually run games on should think about using his phone or tablet instead. There are fantastic clamp on controllers available now that can transform your device easily in a portable deluxe gaming system (especially under Android with emulators):

I picked up one of these Beboncool controllers a few months ago and it's been really good. I haven't used it a ton, but I did use it for most of a 4 hour flight and it worked perfectly. I mostly got it so that I could play Seaman on Reicast.
