iPads are a Godsend to us musicians/producers. Also photographers, videographers, artists and animators. Check out guys like Oak Felder and grammy award winning producer, Henny Tha Bizness. They make beats on the iPad.

Me personally, I do live gigs with my iPad/iPhone. I use it as a guitar or bass amp or as a sampler for my midi keyboard/piano/pad controller. Literally all I have to bring nowadays is my guitar/midi controller and the iPad + dongle (you can also connect an electronic drums. So pretty much any instrument you can think of that has a line out or usb out). I use apps like Model 15, Amplitube, Samplr, iMPC and a bunch of other synthesizer apps.
The main reason we choose the iPad is because it has zero latency playback and all the music apps work in harmony without hiccups thanks to apps like Audiobus and Audiocopy. Also, the battery lasts all day. I would gladly use an Android tablet if it could do any of these acceptably.

>It would be cool if there were apps that actually utilize that power

More power like this just means I get to record more tracks and manipulate them simultaneously without hiccups.

Honestly, for my lifestyle, it is about $200 overpriced. But at least I can depend on it to work everytime.

This tablet is also great for artists and animators on the go.
When people think of tablets, they usually think of gaming performance.
Well here's the other side of the story I guess! (Sorry for my English)

Edit: added some relevant links
Edit2: For those wondering about the missing headphone jack.I hate that apple did this.

They don't include this with the phone. And even if they include one, the whole idea of carrying and using a dongle is so stupid that you're most likely encouraged to switch to Bluetooth.

It's pricey, but there is this adapter -

Belkin makes a splitter with a 3.5mm port and a lightning port for charging. It’s MFi certified, and seems to have decent reviews. That being said, I do not own this device or have anecdotal experience with it. Link below, if you want to check it out.

You can buy it here it’s like $40. You can get dual lightning or a lightning and aux like mine. Also if you charge from the car you may need one of these to keep the signal noise from the charger from going to the head unit. All in all it cost me like $150 with the mount and cables and in my opinion it’s worth it.

I have one of these, I highly recommend it. It’s not cheap, but worth it. The cord on it is very substantial and has taken a beating and still works.

Not sure if you purchased or not yet but I would recommend going for the 3.5mm audio + charge rockstar instead of that one so you omit a dongle and reduce the chance of something going wrong! It's this one.

Well, yeah, a Lightning adapter with both a Lightning and a 3.5mm connector like I was talking about would make more sense here. Something like this that The Verge writer talked about.

You could argue that that's still stupid and you would rather have the 3.5mm jack built into the phone itself, but it's clearly not something the vast majority of iPhone users care about (Bluetooth headphones, the stock EarPods most people are going to use anyway, or just being fine with the included adapter because charging their phone while using wired headphones is something they rarely do) when compared to the benefits they get (a 15% larger battery on the iPhone 7 vs. the preceding iPhone 6S. though it's true other design changes with the 8 shrunk the battery some compared to the 7)

Well for one as a sound engineer, I would say this represents a travesty because I really do listen to alot of mp3s on my way to work and to the store in my car because I had to buy the belkin connector, yes ye, this

SO next time you say that I would hope that you do subsequent research and apply the method to your commenting procedure as I am a certified audio engineer certifiably pissed at this situation apple decided to fuck us real hard with this.

Are there any lightning charging / 3.5 mm audio splitters that hold up? I have a cheap one from Amazon that's giving me the "accessory may not be supported" warning after a couple months. I see the Belkin one on Apple's site, but it has some of the same sort of reviews on Amazon.

> Like from the phone's charging port to a headphone jack?

Exactly. You can also get ones that pass the charging port through so that you can still charge your phone, which is worth getting since they're about the same price and mean you don't have to choose between charging and listening

  • USB C for most Android phones
  • Lightning for iPhones
  • Micro USB for older Android phones

I don't think you can get one for the pre-Lightning iPhones/iPads, but they all had headphone jacks anyway

Back when the phones first went jackless, it was quite annoying having to have half a dozen adapters - but more and more speakers and devices have bluetooth, so it's only older cars and HiFi systems that really have the issue now I find, and it's not exactly arduous to have a couple of adapters considering you'd have an aux cord in the car anyway and HiFi's usually needed weird adapters to have aux connections

yes it does exist but it's questionable

Some of the inexpensive accessories on Amazon use low quality parts that don't work the best with Apple's stuff. This Belkin RockStar is even sold in Apple Stores, so it should work, although I've never used one: https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Charge-RockStar-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B074WDWVX1

I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for when you say splitter. Belkin Rockstar

u/Cruncher_13 · 1 pointr/iPhoneX

I think the only ones that exists within the apple MFI Program are the Belkin ones. The old one with dual lightning had some bad reviews and a lot of people complained about misfunction. Mine still works great since day 1. The new one with lightning and jack should be better from reading some reviews.

I am also using one I bought a noname from ali which worked fine until an iOS Update came out. You never know if it is not mfi certified.
