I rather enjoyed BIRD BOX by Josh Malerman. It was a unique premise and the kind of horror that lingers with you. I read it a year ago and still think about it.
But favorite books would have to be: The Time Traveler's Wife, 11/22/63, Big Little Lies - these are the ones off the top of my head! If I go into my goodreads account I'm sure I have tons more!
Stephen King has a new one coming out on Tuesday called Revival. Apparently it's around 400 pages.
You could also maybe try Bird Box by Josh Malerman. I haven't read it though so I'm not sure what it's like. Some people say it's scary but then I see mixed-to-good reviews on it so I don't know. It's short though, under 300 pages.

Also seconding HOUSE OF LEAVES. That book changed me.
I hope it stops soon. I rested Friday-Sunday and my spotting finally stopped on Sunday.
I read a really great book last week that fit for October spooky stuff. It was really good! https://www.amazon.com/Bird-Box-Novel-Josh-Malerman/dp/0062259652
