We went to Target where it was like a freaking perfectly cute pregnancy bump convention was happening. I couldn't walk anywhere without seeing a pregnant woman. Normally, it doesn't effect me but by the time we walked out and passed another walking in I was definitely like this. While there we realized we won't be bringing a baby home to this house. So that was a sucky realization, but at least I don't have to switch rooms around?

I'm consoling myself with buying a carpet cleaner as soon as I tell myself to stop obsessing. I've seriously been debating for like two weeks and gave myself a deadline of this afternoon to make a decision. They are expensive which is why it's taking me forever to choose. It's either going to be a Rug Doctor (can rent from most grocery stores) or the Bissell competitor (can rent from Lowe's. Pretty sure Bissell is winning based off of all my research though. I fucking hate carpet.

> would be able to get that back when we sell the house?

You might be lucky to get 50% of the cost if you sell.

If I were you, I would invest the money.

You can paint yourself for a few hundred bucks.

You can refinish the cabinets as well.

The shower will be a lot more work, and unless there's some problem I'd just leave it.

Unless the carpet is damaged, I would hire a steam cleaning service to clean it. I like Stanley Steemer. Alternately, you can buy a high quality carpet cleaner for about the same price as one cleaning, and then you own the machine. I have a Bissel professional that is amazing.

So ... blow $30k or $1k and invest the rest?

You can buy the one Lowes rents for about $300. I like mine.

Dude...so? EVERYONE should have some way to thoroughly clean their house.

I stopped using Resolve on my carpets a few years ago because they changed the formula and I suddenly had bleached out white stains on my carpet and upholstery. Now I have a brush and squirt bottle of ammonia, water, and a drop of Dawn. It cleans everything. It's the same cleaner I use in both my carpet cleaning machines. Yes, I have both Bissel cleaners and they rock.

Why do I use ammonia instead of vinegar? Because you will continue to smell the vinegar for months and months and months every time you put your face near the spot you cleaned. Lay down on your couch? It stinks. Both vinegar and ammonia are grease cutters and I use a vinegar mix in my kitchen, no problem, but on furniture and carpets, I use ammonia.

Also, having fostered hundreds of bottle baby kittens, nursing mommas, and having 5 cats of my own and a house rabbit, that whole thing about cats peeing on carpet you sprayed with ammonia because it smells like cat pee? Wive's tale. It has never ever once happened. Ammonia DOES clean the stench of cat pee out of carpets and furniture though.

Want to freshen up your furniture between guests? Make a spray of fabric softener and water and spritz the couch. Smells great, doesn't hurt the furniture.

If your floor is tile, please buy a mop (yeah, I use ammonia there too). Caramel popcorn is easy to clean. Come back when your guest spills sunscreen all over the floor.

Hey this probably isn't the deal you're looking for, but I have three dogs and we've tried several of the $100-200 carpet cleaners and they all just failed.

My wife bought this a while back and it's a complete game changer and I wish we would've bought it sooner (and also instead of the subpar carpet cleaners we bought previously)

It's at a pretty good pricepoint currently, too:

We were silly enough to buy a Bissell 'Big Green Cleaning Machine'. It blows away anything else I've ever used and apparently is built much more sturdy than their standard, cheaper units. It has five stars on Amazon with 1576 reviews, but it's expensive.

We just invested in this machine because the water/dirty water reservoirs are large so that they don't have to be emptied/refilled as often and they can be dumped in the toilet, refilled at the kitchen sink or bathtub. Here's the link:

Otherwise, rent a rug doctor or pay a service to come clean the carpet.

Yes, spot cleaning is what it's meant for. Bissell has a bigger rug cleaning machine like https://www.amazon.com/Bissell-86T3-Cleaning-Professional-Cleaner/dp/B00450U6CS but if you need one of those rarely you should probably just rent it.

Use a shop vac or carpet shampooer to clean up powders.

This one cost about what they charge to clean my carpets once and we love it. Ran super salinated water through it and broke it. Rinsed it out and even 3 years after purchase it was covered by warranty.

My goal in life is to own one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Bissell-Professional-Cleaner-Machine-86T3/dp/B00450U6CS/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=green+machine&qid=1566495870&s=home-garden&sr=1-5
I had the opportunity to use an older one and it was the best cleaning machine I have ever used. Expensive? Yes but imo it qualifies for the buy it for life list.
