This really is an edge case of this stuff. Bluetooth solved the issue that this guy is having. A decent USB hub is all that this guy needs.

Here this is one that is 5 dollars shipped:

I got a "squid" shaped USB hub like this (http://www.amazon.com/Black-4-Port-High-Speed-USB/dp/B002FFT8Z6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1348761124&sr=8-4&keywords=USB+HUB) and it works pretty well since you don't have to look under the "lip" of the ps3 to find the ports.

OK here's why I think this is a terrific product idea: it's not a substitute for a USB hub, it's a substitute for the wires that you would plug into USB ports. So no hubs are needed.

Perfect, thank you! I think I'm going to go with this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Black-4-Port-High-Speed-USB/dp/B002FFT8Z6/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494349496&sr=1-12&keywords=usb+4+port+hub

I just wasnt sure if plugging this into only one of the ports on the Raspberry pi would allow me to still use 4 controllers.

Thanks!

It's just a cheap Chinese hub, they don't always use the same board so no guarantee you'd get the same one if you ordered the hub.
