For the basic kid if you have 3 empty USB3s and one empty USB2, the basic kit will work. However if you want to expand to mroe sensors you should get yourself a PCIe expansion card for sure.

I would say you will most likely need extension cables but really only you can tell. Depends on where your computer is in relation to where you want to put sensors but typically you'll need extensions for at least the rear sensor. For the basic kit you'll want the sensors diagonally across your play space from each other for 360 degree tracking most likely.

I've been trying to use 15 foot cables, but between /u/svinki makes a good point about shorter runs. I have a ton of HDMI cables, but the specific ones I've been trying are both 15 feet:

• Twisted Veins HDMI Cable
  
• BlueRigger Rugged High Speed HDMI 2.0 Cable (I think -- I ordered it originally in 2012, so while Amazon says this is what I have, I know they sometimes use the same SKU and update the product)
  
  I'm thinking maybe I'll grab a 3ft AmazonBasics and 3ft Monoprice (to try both) and then move my Apple TV to be mounted on the wall behind the TV (vs in the cabinet below where I need a longer cable).

I use a thicker braided cable, 15 ft, to reduce the likelihood of problems and haven’t had any.

I’ve had lots of USB issues, but that’s a different story.. the HDMI issues I mentioned were with my computer monitor when I was using cheap cables. Having too long of a cable can also cause issues (but in those cases I’ve seen flickering, the green snow was from a bad/cheap cable).

I ended up with an $11 HDMI repeater based on some recommendations here, and then just used it with an existing 15 foot HDMI cable I had laying around. Works great!

Wow, you don't need to be rude. I'm just trying to get help.

I would appreciate if you can explain why a cable would work with some hardware (my cablebox) but not other hardware (my computer). It doesn't make sense to me, and I'd appreciate if someone could explain it in a non-condescending way.

The big thing is probably just making sure that if you do any splitting, use a powered HDMI splitter. As long as you use a powered splitter, the signal is digital so it's not going to get degraded.

For the long length of cable, you probably just want to make sure your HDMI has plenty of shielding to prevent interference. I've had good luck with these at 15' https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XM9774/
