I'd get the Bodum French press. It's considered the "classic" French press and should be exactly what she needs.
Since French press uses an immersion method of making coffee, which is really similar to steeping tea, you can use it for tea just like you would coffee.
We've started investing more in quality utensils and accessories and put a lot of stock in the research and opinions of America's Test Kitchen and the Wirecutter. Here's a few we have that stand out:
di Oro Living silicon spatula set - $27 seemed expensive so I used camelcamelcamel to wait for a sale and jumped on them. They are nice to use and feel like the last spatulas I'll ever need.
Chantal Kettle - feels we'll designed, never found the handle to be hot, looks just as good now as it did new 5 years ago.
Bodum French Press - we only need 1-2 travel mugs of coffee a day so this is quick, small, easy to use and easy to clean.
Victorinox Chefs Knife, Bread Knife, and Steak Knives - Waited for the chef and bread knife to go on sale and we're very happy with them. The steak knives are actually what I use for most kitchen tasks like cutting fruit, small vegetables, sandwiches, etc. They're incredibly sharp and there's enough of them that I always have a clean one to use.
Mason Jars - all at one time we needed new pantry storage, glasses, travel tumblers, and lunch containers. Mason jars we're by far the cheapest option for all of those and now they can be moved from task to task depending on where they're needed and should last a lifetime until they're ready to be recycled.
These look expensive, and they do cost more, but I'm no longer frustrated by my tools, making cooking easier (I really hate to cook), and I know they won't need replacing for a very very long time.
We have this French press and we've been buying coffee from Boca Java lately when they have $5 sales.

They are a little more expensive up front, but you can replace the beaker if it breaks (which it will) for cheaper than a new french press. Link
