But I've been thinking about getting one of the 150ish 720p ones they have on Amazon just for ceiling visuals or possibly mario kart or smash when the 65 inch isn't enough

I would definitely spend the extra money and get a 720p native projector. Rule of thumb is <720p is around $75, 720p chinese is around $125, 1080p chinese is $200-250, 1080p name brand $500+

That's the projector I use personally, 720p and really small, albeit the battery in that one doesn't work anymore.
