It's possible they don't know what they want quite yet and sounds like she's not doing much shopping being on bed rest and all. Or maybe they feel weird registering for a ton of stuff since they probably already had baby showers for at least one other kid. My oldest was 11 when I had my LO and I got rid of his baby stuff years ago lol so I can definitely tell you from personal experience that even if I did have stuff from my oldest it probably would not have been in the best shape not to mention dated. I had another baby shower and registered for everything lol.
So with that in mind, I recommend getting them something off register for baby. I don't think Boppys were a thing when I had my oldest but I literally got one on the way home from the hospital (I had him 4 weeks early so we totally weren't ready). Even though we ended up formula feeding I use it all the time still (LO is 7 months old). I got the one with the extra cute cover so I think it was like $40-50 and I love it!
Also, my MIL bought us a 4 pack of Aden and Anais muslin blankets (also not a thing 10 years ago) and they were $50 which seemed like a lot at the time and I don't think we would have bought them on our own because of that but we used them every night and every nap for MONTHS. Pretty much until my little guy started busting out of the swaddle lol. Plus they come in a ton of cute prints.
