That's a good starting guide to get the djent tone. If you don't have the analogue effects I'd suggest looking into getting Guitar Rig 5 (or other free guitar effects processing programs http://guitarix.org/ ). The signal chain I use is: Guitar -> tube screamer -> EQ -> Noise gate -> amp. If you want to get a sound like After The Burial use two noise gates.

I actually have a pretty weird live setup. My guitar is an [Ibanez S470](http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/S470_(1992%E2%80%931999,_Japan) made in 1993 with Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups in the neck and bridge. I took out the middle single coil because I never use it. Active pickups will give you a ton of drive with minimal noise which is what you want when playing djent. I'm not a fan of EMG's active pickups, but Seymour Duncan does it really well. I'm not sure how well the stock pickups on your RG8 will do, you might want to consider changing them to a higher output option. It doesn't necessarily have to be an active pickup either, my Ibanez S7321 has a DiMarzio X2N in the bridge and it works nicely.
The amp I use is a 1978 Fender Twin Reverb Silverface combo with 2x10 speakers. For that year Fender used their bass speakers in the guitar cab, so it handles lower tunings and 7 string/extended range guitars amazingly. Down side of using this amp is there is not distortion. I use an Ibanez TS9 tube streamer -> Metal Muff by electro-harmonix -> Boss Equalizer GE-7 -> Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2. I set my amp up on the reverb channel, but with no reverb cause it uses and extra tube on that channel versus the clean one, and the tone nobs to about 5-6-3.
Ultimately it doesn't matter too much whether you have the "best" gear or not, make do with what you have, but definitely pick up a tube screamer and a noise suppressor. I would look into the ISP Noise Decimator instead of the cheaper Boss NS-2.
I second this. I also play a JM and it's hella noisy. Not sure if it's true of all JM's but I imagine it might be. Now the hum is only there if I'm actually playing, but you can't hear it because, well, I'm playing.
