Bulova 96B230

Price: ~$110-$140

Movement: UHF Quartz (sweeping seconds hand)

Style: Field/Military

Size: 42mm

Link: Amazon

Description:

If you want the accuracy of a quartz movement and still like your sweeping seconds hand, Bulova's UHF quartz movements are for you. This particular watch is of the field/military style with a "modern" but modest size of 42mm. Arabic numerals, the railroad minute track, and the knurled bezel is reminiscent of mid-20th century styling. The cushion case and the lugs that "curve" down (and aren't all that long) helps this "bigger" watch sit well on the wrist. A screwdown crown and 100m of water resistance lends peace of mind if ever the watch has to be near a lot of water. The numerals are lumed, as well as the hour and minute hands, and are decent enough. Since it's quartz, the seconds hand does hack as well. The date window at 6 is white text on a black background, so it's less intrusive on the dial and helps keep the symmetry. Splashes of red on the "60" at 12 and the second hand gives the watch a bit more character. Overall a great watch for the price point, but probably not at the MSRP of $375 or something.

Here's the literal modern reissue of the Bulova military watch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TQHECP2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8

I wear mine constantly. In fact, I like it so much I bought a spare from someone on this sub a couple weeks ago.

Why am I so attracted to Brad Pitt.

This might be a cheap alternative.

Though I feel this character would be wearing a Hamilton

I agree, this one has always been a favorite of mine but i could never pull it off due to my bitch wrists.

Maybe too late, but this Bulova, I believe is the best watch $100 can buy. No seconds subdial though.

I would think that you could wear a lot of watches with a leather or stainless steel bracelet with a suit. I tend to go conservative in my style in a suit, so I wouldn't watch that has a very busy dial.

Looking for recommendations.

Budget: $100-$150 (maybe up to $200)

Style I'm looking for: casual, but elegant. Leather band (preferably brown), silver or dark gray case, ~42mm.

Features I'm looking for:

  • Few complications. Preferably only date or day/date, as I don't need any other complications.

  • Day/date should be horizontal (not diagonal like a lot of watches I've seen)

  • Sweeping seconds hand

  • Continuous seconds hand is preferred, but not the most important factor

Don't care too much about brand, just no shit fashion brands. Don't care about movement as long as it's reliable and accurate.

A few watches I've looked at and what I like/don't like about them:

Fossil Neutra Chronograph Leather Watch : Good color and aesthetics, but not a fan of the sub-seconds or the diagonal date.

Fossil Mens 44mm Townsman - FS5437 : Black case is beautiful, but no day/date.

Bulova Men's 96B230 Military Analog Display Japanese Quartz Brown Watch : Continuous seconds hand and lack of complications are great, but the numerals look really gaudy imo. Mixed feelings about the squircle case.

I'm probably being super picky, but hopefully there's a good mix of the three watches above out there. :D

    Thanks everyone!!

EDIT Apparently I fell for the most common misconception. By "sweeping seconds", I mean continuous, smooth motion of the second hand.
