I used THIS, THIS and THIS to extend my Pimax. Works great, no problems.

I have been struggling to find a cable extension solution for the PiMax since I got mine last month. I suspect the challenges with the Valve Index will be similar.

For the setup in my studio a 45ft extension is ideal. I've had HDMI and USB solved at that distance for years with the Vive and Oculus CV1. DisplayPort seems to be much more finicky, especially at high resolution and refresh rates.

So far the only cable I have tried that works consistently with all resolution and refresh rates is this 10ft extension from Cable Matters:

This 15ft Tripp Lite cable does work most of the time, but I have had a few instances where the headset would not initialize on startup trying to run the Large FOV at 90Hz. But when it has intialized it has worked fine:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06Y45L3X3

Anything longer than that has not worked for me. Other people have reported success with these Delock extensions at 7.5m and 10m. I was able to get a German vendor to send them to me, and the 7.5m has worked a few times with the small FOV at 60Hz but nothing better than that and I never got the 10m to work at all.

I've also tried active/optical cables with couplers but had no luck at all... I would be totally willing to pay the price for a cable like this if it worked, but in my testing it did not:

I even tried this StarTech active signal booster with no luck:

For reference, here is a thread about it on the PiMax forums:

Yep I am using the 10 foot variant of each of these and they work great. The USB I have had for awhile as it came from my CV1 but the display port is new for the S.

If you want to do 10ft extensions on the Rift S you need high quality cables, at least for the usb 3.0. I use Cables Matters usb and displayport cables to do 10ft on my Rift S. Nothing I have seen will allow the Rift S to do longer than 10 feet extensions.

The amazon basics 10ft usb cable would not work for me and I returned it and the cables matter one did. You also need a good usb port, in my case I needed to order an Inateck ktu3fr-4p usb card to have my Rift S work without and black screens or static passthrough problems.

Why do you need such an expensive solution for the DP extension? Shouldn't a regular extension cable like this work fine?

edit: is it just for the extra length? 10m/30ft+ is quite a lot, hope you are making good use of all that space ;)

I extend my Rift S with 10 ft cables and I've had no issues.

I managed to get this working using a 10ft and 3ft version of this cableand chaining them together.

For USB, a friend of mine recommended this cable as it worked fine for him. However, I'm needing to use the Vive link box like others suggested here to get it working, whereas my friend did not. It could be that I needed a longer cable than they did. They mentioned only needing to extend by 10ft. Could also be that my motherboard is a few years old, right when USB 3.0 was coming out.

However, since getting it setup I've finally had to plug in headphones and have discovered that the headphone port on the headset if very loose and I'm getting no left channel audio out of it. So I need to get a replacement headset. :(

I tried the 10ft Cable Matters one with my Index and it did not work. Rainbow colored noise everywhere and audio crackling. One of the reviews said it worked for them but I didn't have that luck.

I'm going to buy a few more (maybe a shorter one) and see if any of them work. I'll report back.

u/psivenn · 2 pointsr/ValveIndex

DisplayPort signals really hate long cables, so I don't think it's likely to be a problem with your GPU. I've struggled to find any confirmed 10ft cables. I do recall folks posting that they had 6ft working. There are active cables (I use a 50ft fiber optic) so if you have to, you can go that more expensive route.

At least a couple Pimax users reported luck with this extension but it sounds like that may be the one you tried.

Might reach out to this person to see if theirs worked.

I've used both of these cables to successfully extend my Vive and Index

I have successfully used the following 3' and 10' passive DisplayPort extensions:

StarTech.com 3 ft / 91 cm 20 pin DP DisplayPort Extension Panel Mount Cable - DisplayPort to DisplayPort - Male to Female:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YKX6JK

Cable Matters DisplayPort to DisplayPort Extension Cable (DP to DP Extension Cable) 10 Feet

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1K1KDE

Note: I have occasionally observed static/sparkles in the video feed when using the 10 foot extension. Since the Rift S cable is 16 feet, adding another 10 feet seems to be on the verge of the limit for what we can do with passive extensions.

The following did NOT work:

StarTech.com DisplayPort Cable - 30 ft / 10m - Active - 4K DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable - DP Cable - Active DisplayPort Cable

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IFZN2O8

I connected this directly between my 1080ti and the Rift S. I had to use a female-female DP adapter.

The Oculus software showed the DP was connected, but the screen was totally blank/dead - nothing at all.

I did test the 30' active extension and female-female adapter with a 1080p LCD monitor and it was working fine, but no go for the Rift S. Either it can't handle the bandwidth, or something about this cable (perhaps the fact that is a unidirectional cable) prevents it from working it with the Rift S.

The StarTech was the only active DisplayPort extension I could find -- if anybody has experience with any others, please comment!

I've been using the same cable but the 10" version and haven't had any issues since launch.

These were the ones I found recommended somewhere else that work fine in my setup no problem.

Here's the Displayport extension I used. The Usb was some generic thing I picked up years ago to use with the CV1 sensors. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1K1KDE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Nostrildumbass · 1 pointr/Pimax

Yes, it works fine for me with the powered USB extension that the Oculus Rift standalone sensor comes with, and a pretty generic CableMatters DisplayPort extension.

This one works fine for me, the amazon basics USB 3.0 extender seems ok as well.

I've been using this and haven't had any issues. I haven't tried using it without to see if the image changes, though. So YMMV I guess?

u/rekabffej · 1 pointr/Pimax

Just an update. I finally updated to the latest Pitool (144) and my delock cable no longer works at 90hz full FOV. I had to switch to the 10ft cable matters one that many others have linked and that works flawlessly.

I have been using this and have had no issues with the Rift S. Amazon has this with a usb extension and the Rift S as items that are frequently bought together.

I got this 10 ft cable, but haven't gotten the Rift S to work with it. There are quite a few reviews that say they're using it with the S just fine, but a few that say it doesn't work. I have to use the DP to mini DP converter, not sure if that has something to do with it.
