If anyone needs a smaller run- I successfully extended my setup 6 feet using cheap cables off Amazon.

These are the exact cables I’m using:

Cable Matters USB to USB Extension Cable (USB 3.0 Extension Cable) in Black 6 Feet for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Playstation VR Headset and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C7S2FRE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fRCRDbCTBPZSF

For reference: AORUS RTX 2080 Waterforce

Going direct into the MOBO for the USB extender.

I have been running it this was for close to a month and have logged probably a day worth of playtime. I have not noticed any blips/artifacts or any visual/lag issues. It’s like the cables aren’t even there.

What's with the Amazon links being attached to a Youtube link?

For those looking for clean links:

  1. USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter
  2. USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter
  3. DisplayPort Extension Cable
  4. USB Extension Cable

EDIT: OP clarified why the links are buried in Youtube links since this post.

So I have bad news to report. I have NOT been able to successfully run the Valve Index with extension cables.

I had the Vive Pro headset running FINE with the following setup

  1. On the PC side, Amazon Basic display port 15 feet cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J8S7EXU)

  2. Then a Cable Matters mini display port to display port adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HNF0KF0) to connect to Vive Pro breakout box

Like I said this setup was working fine withe the Vive Pro.

With the Valve Index (which uses DP on BOTH sides), I tried the following configurations:

    Configuration 1:

  3. Same Amazon Basic display port 15 feet cable

  4. Then a Cable Matters 2-Pack DisplayPort to DisplayPort Coupler (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YFPM2CU) to the Valve Index DP

This results in NO image at all. It even crashes Steam VR! (some error message about enabling direct mode...). I have tried multiple refresh rate including 90Hz with the same result

    Configuration 2:

  5. Cable Matters DisplayPort to DisplayPort Extension Cable (DP to DP Extension Cable) 6 Feet (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1K1G74) from the PC to the valve index

This time there is an image, BUT if you look at black areas you clearly see "sparkles" (like glitter) which clearly shows there is some degradation and/or noise. And it is only a 6Ft cable (which is too short for my setup but wanted to try it anyway).

So I am really bummed that the latest and greatest and expensive VR device REQUIRES you to be plugged into your PC directly and given the fact that the cable is just big enough for a 3mx3m area, that is quite frustrating... Supposedly the new base stations supports bigger play areas but I am not sure how this is possible since the cable wouldn't be long enough, unless your PC is inside the play area...

I use the Cable Matters DP and USB cablse. Sorry my memory failed me, actually I just got the 1.8m (6 feet) it seems. I forgot I got a shorter one for the Rift S (had much longer 15' HDMI ones for cv1). The included cable on the Rift S being longer made this all I needed to reach all parts of my play space. I really just like to have something between the headset and my video card ports, and an easy access to unplug/replug right next to the couch, so these work perfect for me.

I did a quick search and found some folks talking about using at least 10' extension and maybe up to 5m, but couldn't find a link to a specific cable (I only looked for about 1 minute, I'm sure if you dust off your Google-fu you can find it if you really need one that long, I would imagine such a cable would include an active repeater and perhaps get kinda pricey).

Here is that thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/beloox/oculus_rift_s_display_port_extension/

And here are the one's I am using with no issues:

6' (1.8m) DP cable (Cable Matters):

I used these and it worked:

DP: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L1K1G74?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

USB 3.0: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00C7S2FRE?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I got 6 ft extension, but someone posted that same cables 10ft extension worked as well.

With 10ft extension cables and 15ft from Rift you'll get your 25ft

This is the 6' cable that worked for me:

I bought this last week and its working perfectly fine. got myself a 6ft usb 3.0 extender and this.

Extra 6 feets help soooo much.

This "works" but there are some pixel sparks and overall more washed out display. The only non active cable with a higher spec at 2m is this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RJ13CH9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Two users have reported no problems with it at 144hz, mine will come in next week.

I got this in 6ft; it’s not any more expensive than an HDMI extender. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L1K1G74/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9NAXDb7N21876

I'm in the same situation but I only need maybe a 6feet extension since I'm one room over and my pc is close to the wall. This is the only cable I've seen that looks like it might work but it's DP 1.3.

From the reading I've done. It looks like Display Port is extremely susceptible to signal degradation over distances much longer than stick cable it has. Another reddit user said that they had no issues with the 6ft extention from Cable Matters, but everything else caused issues.

I think I’m gonna just get this cable

It says “Supports 2K resolutions and below at 120 & 144 Hz”

So I assume it would be fine because the Pimax 5k Plus has two separate 1440p signals?
