One thing I'd recommend getting is a dashcam. You can buy cheap but serviceable camera for around $30. Even spending $100 is a bargain when it comes to being able to have evidence in an accident. Here's an example where the dashcam saved the guy in a hit and run

The lens protector was removed and the quality was slightly better when I first got it. It seems to have degraded a bit from when I first got it due to the sun, although, the quality wasn't to amazing to begin with.
