But what you need to do is when summer starts go get yourself a heavy ass winter coat (columbia, carhartt, or the brands you listed), a scarf, a hat, some winter boots, some good socks and some long sleeves.
Its not really that bad, you should only ever be outside for 20-30 minutes max from what I can tell on this campus (I don't go here, wife is a grad student).
Anyway, here's a list of my typical winter garb for those bitter as fuck days, from bottom to top, I am linking to the closest shit to what I've got because I have had my shit for years. Also note, most days you won't have to bundle up with all of this, but its always good to have in case you have to go outside for extended periods of time when its bonechilling cold. Also note that everything listed here isn't for pure warmth, there's also style that I consider:
At the end of the day, do you need all of that? No. But are there a few days where you may wish you had it... absolutely.
I remember 3-4 winters ago where the temperature got down to -20 F in Ohio, back when I was still in undergrad. I was pissed about the cold, but I was warm as fuck because I was properly prepared.
You obviously don't have to get every specific thing I listed either. You've got your own style, you can make it work. When summer starts though, cruise through your local mall and get at least one thing that you like that would match each of the things I listed, why summer? SALES SALES SALES. You will be able to use them for years and your ass will stay warm, especially when the fucking wind starts up.
Also, for those cooler days, I'm sure you've got hoodies... Make sure you get some if you don't and make sure you've got jeans. The damp weather around here can make you feel colder than it is.

I've worn mine a shit ton. It's extremely well made and it has everything you could ever want in a jacket/hoodie. (it also a beer koozie on the front pocket so you can look cool as fuck at your first party). It'd be good for you for about 3/4s of the year since you're not used to the cold.

I wrote this long ass shit out because I'm actually a miserable person with a ton of dislikes. One of the things I hate more than anything in the world is cold. I hate snow, I hate anything that makes the temperature outside cold (I love rain because its not snow). So, I want to make sure people trying to make their lives better AKA you going to college, don't have to deal with the cold in a shitty way.
