I have to admit I've had a great time with my Cassio Men's tough solar illuminator

it's reasonably cheap and works great. 5 alarms, solar-powered, stopwatch, analog and digital time, Once you charge it once you pretty much won't have to charge it again so long as it's not just sitting in a cupboard all day. calendars, world clocks, and water-resistant to 100 meters. Over the course of a year, the "tough solar" and "illuminator" markings have begun to rub off of mine but I wear this watch daily and use as my morning alarm, at work, and throughout the day for its various other functionalities. Given what other people have said about the lifespan of these watches, it should last you more than long enough to get some other alternative set up to tell time, and in the event that you can't then excrement will have obviously hit the rotating blades hard enough that the only times you will need to be concerned about are morning, noon, and night, and maybe the summer/winter solstices or the spring/fall equinox's for planting. Anything else will be irrelevant.

Seems to be original Casio, but not a G-shock model. They are quite popular since they have quite a few of G-shocks features, besides shock resist.

Here is a great Casio Illuminator. I have the same watch and it is great daily wear.

It's light, durable, waterproof, solar, and the charge lasts forever.

I'm a big fan of this one Casio Tough Solar model, it's solar powered with a digitally controlled analog face, so there are no batteries to fool with. I never bother with deliberately charging it, in fact I lost it for 6 months under a bed at one point. It kept the time, and as soon as it was exposed to light it was instantly back to normal function. I've beaten the absolute hell out of it. I finally killed the analog portion by handling huge magnets while forgetting I was wearing it (can't really fault the manufacturer for that one) so I got another, but given what I put it through (2 summers surveying on a river, constantly getting whacked on jet boats, submerged in silty river water, saltwater, pools, etc) I'm really impressed with how it held together. Bands are plastic and will likely eventually need replacement, so it may be a degree less than true "BIFL," but it's quite durable.

I have a watch that is messed up like this as well. It pisses me off to no avail because it was ~$450. I bought a digital / analog solar Casio watch that makes me much happier for $30.

I order this watch whenever mine breaks.

This watch is pretty cheap, tough solar, plus it works great on slim wrists. I have the orange edition without the fat bezel, it's mighty nice
