Do you plan to use the adjust button so many time? I suppose it would be a dealbreaker if you do plan to use the timer or stopwatch so much and its hard to press.
In other case the "G5600" has non-recessed adjust button. It's slightly less costly than its older brother the "M5610". $75 vs $90. Either of those might work if you want the same square style of G-Shock.

In terms of NATO straps, Jays&Kays has adapters for all square-style G-Shocks. Its about $12 on Etsy. It's usable on your model as well.

I want a new G-Shock to replace my trusty DW5600, and I thought getting a solar one would be cool; I'm specifically looking at this one. But I noticed that the buttons are somewhat flipped. On my DW5600, the start/stop button is in the top right and the light button is in the top left. This is how it's been on every digital watch I've had since I was a kid, and I want to try and get a watch with the start/stop for the stopwatch in the top right. Does anyone know of other 5600 series watches that have that? Solar ones are preferred. Thanks!
Yes, there is also the identical G5600E-1, which I think is basically the same features as GWM5610, but without the atomic clock syncing. It has Tough Solar, too. I just ordered one recently, and looking forward to it. It has more features than the standard $40-50 DW5600E, which is what I was considering at first. But I decided to spend a little more to get some more features with solar power, and I didn't want the atomic timekeeping.
Look on youtube for videos of the G5600E to get a better look.
I have a very similar model, more like this. It is cheaper on the amazon link. It is an excellent watch but it is indeed quite big and bulky. With a G shock I think that is kind of the point.
Something like this wears and feels much smaller and the funtionality is almost the same.
These g shocks have the band attached in a way that has a fixed curvature that adapts very well to your wrist.
