Nah, no technical work for partners usually. They have lower levels of staff, senior staff, and management to do that. Partners travel around, show face, pretend to review stuff occasionally, shake hands, give fake speeches to the annual mass of new hires, telling them they can make partner too someday. But they still often work a lot of hours.

The draw back of becoming a partner is that you had to sacrifice a lot of personal time to climb up the ranks of all the prior roles. The CEO of one of the largest public accounting/consulting firms describes the drawbacks after he was diagnosed with cancer in a really good book. He lived his life wanting to get to the top, got cancer, regretted some of it, and died before he could enjoy the financial payoffs.

I actually worked at the firm the author did, and I always thought it was ironic how NO ONE would mention him or the book, it was like they didn't want to admit how true it was. All the accounting firms/law/consulting firms are the same, but if money and material means a lot to you, you can get it there.

Happy Day 1!

Yesterday / Sunday - Cooked my second meal in my new slow cooker. Beef stew over cauliflower rice. It was amazing, and will give me meals for days. Did dumbbell weight training at my apartment.

Today / Monday should be easy enough.

  • Cardio in the morning.
  • Work all day.
  • Won't be able to begin with my portfolio as I have to get ready for a blizzard that's coming over the Northeast and I have to prepare for that.
  • Definitely need to clean my apartment.
  • I'm going to learn some more guitar chords after work

And from my Intro here are my Sprint 1 goals:

  • Continue workout schedule.
  • Avoid unnecessary snacks throughout the day.
  • Avoid unnecessary drinks at night.
  • Complete a design for personal portfolio.
  • Clean the apartment for at least 20 minutes a day.
  • Play piano or guitar for at least 30 minutes a day, four days a week with no distractions.

I also want to add reading a book this sprint. I am reading one that I try to read once a year, Chasing Daylight by Eugene O'Kelly
