Are you sure you ruined your suede boots? Suede is harder to kill than most people think.
My cheap Lands' End suede desert boots survived many downpours when they were completely soaked through. The only thing I did was to stuff balled up newspaper in them, and replaced as needed.
Also, loads of people here like these Chippewas and Thorogoods. Their normal retail price is above $100, but they've dipped below $100 in the past few months, so they may be worth keeping an eye on. There's also the 20% coupon you can get if you sign up for Amazon's newsletter thing.

some sizes of these Chippewas are still about $75. They're a little more workbootish but you might like them.
