You have a few choices. You could either go quartz or automatic. Quartz is where you have a battery (and sometimes solar charging), and automatic is when the movement of your wrist winds a little spring in the watch. Automatic watches require resetting every few weeks because they are not as accurate, but some people think they are cool. I will assume you don't want to deal with that, but if you do, something from Seiko would be your #1 best bet for sure.

This particular watch (which is what I am wearing right now) looks delicate but by all means, it is not. It is meant for scuba diving so you can swim with it and it is very durable to the point where I have accidentally used it to block a lacrosse shot and it survived without a scratch.

If you want to go Quartz, and for 200$, probably solar, you will want to go Citizen.

I don't have a citizen myself but they are very highly reviewed over at /r/watches.

You could also go another rout and get a G-SHOCK, which is probably the most durable watch you can buy.

(Both of those are solar power).

I would encourage you to look above your price range a bit, especially if you want to go for a Citizen, because it allows you to get something like this that will last you forever, but you can still get something great for under $200.

http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-AT4117-56H-Nighthawk-Stainless-Eco-Drive/dp/B00GTNPXUE/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1457419426&sr=1-3&nodeID=6358540011&keywords=citizen+nighthawk

The watches I listed here are much more versatile than most of the ones you linked to, (except for the G-SHOCK, don't wear that with a suit!) I will wear my Seiko Orange Monster with anything from a swim suit at the beach or with a black suit at a formal event. Buying from any of these three brands and not from a fashion/clothing brand that also makes watches will guarantee that your watch will last for a very long time. Feel free to PM me or ask for help at /r/watches if you have any more questions or want any recommendations.

I recently put a list together for my sister-in-law that is almost exactly this criteria. Here are the highlights:

• Diver - Seiko $160 42mm

• Diver - Citizen $150 42mm

• Field - Seiko $133 44mm

• Field - Seiko $120 43mm

• Flieger - Ticino $145 44mm

• Pilot - Citizen $117 45mm

• Pilot - Citizen $195 42mm

• Chrono - Seiko $166 43mm

• Chrono - Seiko $94 43mm

• G-Shock - Casio (any)

• Other - Bulova $190 42mm

Sorry, a few were over your price range (her criteria were <$200), but it will get you in the ballpark. I'm going to make a post with all the watches I came up with soon.

Well, you guys have successfully infected me with the watch bug! As I mentioned in my last post, I'm waiting to treat myself to a very nice watch as a reward for completing a big work project. Until then, I can't help myself by buying a few cheaper pieces. This is my second Citizen, which I bought because it seemed like a steal at $110 on Amazon and I don't have any large diameter watches.

I think it's a beautiful watch, and I don't know if the pictures really display just how large it is at 45 mm. My one quibble is the strap. The Amazon reviews are not kidding when they say this thing has an absurdly thick strap, as you can see in the fifth picture. Far too thick. It feels cheap and it's a real pain to put the watch on or take it off, and nearly impossible to do one-handed.

I haven't yet delved into the world of NATO straps, so I welcome any suggestions you guys have on nice brown straps to replace the current one with. I was eyeing this one, but I know nothing about what brands or straps are reputable, so any feedback would be very helpful!

I have the exact same watch and purchased through Amazon; it's legit. It's one of those things where MSRP is ridiculously high but regularly sells for a lot less.

If you have medium to large-sized wrists however but really like the watch dial I've been eyeing this Citizen watch. I found the SNK807 to be kind of small, I would constantly need to adjust the time every few days, and the watch crown is pretty miniscule.

Just picked up my first "pilot" watch. I wanted big, analog, high contrast, glow hands, simple, and cool looking: Citizen Sport

u/MangyCanine · 3 pointsr/Watches

This. If OP likes the style, it's easily one of the best deals for the money. However, it's only available in the US, and then only from Orient's website for $225.

If OP wants something more dressy: the Orient Bambino. However, note that there are three major different versions/styles, each with various dial colors.

For something different, how about a solar-powered watch? While they're quartz, you won't have to worry about battery changes for 10-15+ years (maybe 20+, if you're lucky). Citizen has a nice casual flieger-style watch, and Amazon has it for under $120. There are lots of choices here, from Citizen, Casio, and others.

Or like this

What about this

And you can't forget about this great piece

Watches by Avi-8 can usually be found cheaper on eBay. I have the 2nd one linked and the lume is top notch. I also have the Citizen which is a wonderful brand. I collect watches, haha.

u/Alakazam · 3 pointsr/Watches

There's a lot of options at that price point.

This is a very nice citizen eco-drive, for a few dollars more than what you're looking at.

If you wanted a chronograph that's a bit more unique than the one you looked at, This timex chrono offers the same functionality but a more unique look. It's only a 20mm band, however, but that can be swapped out pretty easily.

If you wanted, imo, a better casio chronograph, This Casio Tough Solar, or its other coloured counterparts, would do the job. A sportier look, but comes with atomic timekeeping across multiple continents, meaning you'll never really have to set the time.

u/Young_Pyromentor · 3 pointsr/Watches

Looks suspiciously like this Citizen eco-drive pilot: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KCF7JL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zD1ZBbWWEN2MW

u/NinthOdin · 3 pointsr/Watches

This is a bit busier and larger, but quite nice, also comes in black if that's your preference:

u/Crunchatize_Me_Cptn · 2 pointsr/Watches

If you want it to be a functional modern pilot's watch, probably the Casio Edifice Aviation is your best bet under $150, with it's slide rule bezel and chronograph. If you want more of just an aviation styling, there are some Flieger watches from Messerschmitt, Citizen watches, and Aristo watches. These watches are not as functional today to a pilot as something with a slide rule, but the styling has its roots in vintage German aviation watches.

Check citizen or pulsar.

I have the avion and love it. Especially for travel overseas so I can use the 24hr ring.

Very well made. Band is leather so I don't take it in the water. 5 years later and it still glows. Still works on Ecodrive. No issues.

u/DantesEdmond · 2 pointsr/FrugalMaleFashionCDN

Amazon has good prices for Citizen watches, this one is 40$ over the budget but it's a beautiful watch.

/u/nortbair321 if you find one you like, add it to your wish list and Amazon will let you know when (if) the price drops. If you like something and you're patient you can get a great deal.

u/slumper · 2 pointsr/Watches

I wear this citizen a lot. There are some pics floating around on the subreddit

u/ModernRegimen · 2 pointsr/Watches
u/lithium111 · 2 pointsr/Watches

Check out this Citizen. Its face is a bit busier than the examples you linked but follows a similar aesthetic. This Timex is a bit out there but the face is kind of a similar colour to the ones you linked and at only $50 you have plenty of money left to buy a third party brown strap.

u/lemonchicken91 · 2 pointsr/Watches

This is a good post because I own the Casio but havent been able to tell if both the seiko and the citizen would be too large. The Casio fits me about the same and I feel like i can rock the 007 now and potentially this guy https://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-AW1361-10H-Stainless-Leather/dp/B00KCF7JL6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1495575052&sr=8-3&keywords=citizen

u/b0rtmeister · 2 pointsr/Watches

I would recommend sticking to brands like Casio, Timex, Citizen, or Orient. Brands like Sturhling, Invicta, Nixon, Fossil etc. aren't quite as good quality and frankly won't be too well received here, not that you should care too much what other people think. Citizen makes really good pieces in that price range, check out these:

that bulova is great but its quartz, if you don't mind a quartz watch it opens up a WHOLE slew of different options under 200$. If I was buying a simliar styled watch under 200$ and didn't mind quartz I would probably look at Citizen Eco-Drive watches, the quality is usually outstanding and the solar feature is fun and very useful.

u/skyleth · 1 pointr/Watches

> Citizen Avion

right in the budget range on amazon right now. There is also this one or this one from a third party seller.

Seiko has their own version of the nighthawk in the flight computer style.

u/swassopotamus · 1 pointr/Watchexchange

I have a citizen Aviator im looking to trade, I can get photos tonight if interested. This is the watch on amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Citizen-AW1361-10H-Analog-Display-Japanese/dp/B00KCF7JL6

u/Nothingcreativeatm · 1 pointr/Watches

A citizen eco drive isn't an automatic, but well regarded around here, and they have a bunch of options for your desired level of formality.

edit: or this one that actually has the black dial.
edit 2: I like this one best.

u/Touche_good_sir · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Yea bc of budget reasons that is what I'm leaning towards. The other I have in mind is this Citizen but I'd have to wait for a good sale to still fit the other items in the budget.

But front runner would be the Seiko 5 with new strap , like you said for versatility. Id like everyone to be able to wear it beyond the wedding if they want.

u/Schrockwell · 1 pointr/Watches

Within that price range, you can consider an Eco-Drive with a little more style or features. For example, a chronograph or a second time zone and a bezel that's a slide rule, or something that just looks like a pilot watch.

u/IAmIndignant · 1 pointr/Watches

I also like this guy, but it seems large, and I'm wary of the solar mechanism failing/ repairs
