Ive got this Citizen and this Gshock. They each sync similarly; they try every hour for a few hours starting after midnight every night, unless you tell them to do it manually. They each seem to pick up the signal on most nights. Id say they both pick it up about 75% of the time (i live in nj). The gshocks only method of warning you of a low charge is that the second hand will do the 2 second skip if its really low. The citizen on the other hand, has a meter showing 4 charge levels. Ive never seen it drop below the 3/4 full indication. Then again i also leave them within 3 feet of a window. They also both shut off second hand movement after being in the dark after so long to conserve power. I love the features on each of them.

I am loving this watch so I'm happy to oblige. I started my search for a new watch right here on r/watches and saw Citizen was a real crowd-pleaser. I compared many models ranging from about $200-$500 including:

  • JY0005-50E
  • JY0000-53E
  • JY0064-00L

    I immediately fell in love with the CA0295-58E's simplicity and dark color scheme. I have very thin wrists so the smaller case diameter was a huge plus and the grey matches my titanium carbide wedding band perfectly.

    My wife purchased it for me on Amazon for $337 which, she said, was about $20 cheaper than what Macy's was selling it for.

    I like the look of the band but I am having a terrible time with it yanking out my arm hair. Is this a common problem? Should I just shave my wrist? :p

Both of those are solid watches, don't think you could go wrong with either of them. Btw, the citizen you linked above is Navihawk not Nighthawk?

Some others to consider;

Citizen Nighthawk BJ700 series (bought my brother one of these, great watch, big face, solid and got fair bit of weight)

Citizen Skyhawk

And if you're after something of vintage WWII aviator;

Laco (might be bit over your budget, great watch though & great heritage/ history, have one myself)

Steinhart - Aviation

Steinhart - Pilot (same styling as the Laco, WWII inspired)

Also note that the Laco and Steinhart mostly use Swiss mechanical movements and the prices listed include 19% VAT (tax) which would not apply if you're purchasing outside of EU.

Take a look at the Citizen Nighthawk or Skyhawk. Extra points for the badass Blue Angels model.

Of course, if ana-digi is too much and you want strictly digital, then G-Shock or Suunto all the way.

Sweet. Citizen makes a lot of cool chronographs, with eco drive (their solar name) and also throw an atomic clock radio in it that will set the exact time to the watch so you don't have to do it yourself. It literally is a watch that doesn't need you (at least after you set it initially).

Here's a basic example. This one's titanium too.

Depending on how you like that, you can add more letters and numbers.

Or chill it out:

I pretty much promise you can narrow it down from there and get anything you'd like. Your budget is real healthy. I'd just make sure it's eco drive and atomic (if you like that idea).

Cheapest I could find it: http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-JY0000-53E-Eco-Drive-Skyhawk-Watch/dp/B000ZPMYQI

If you know where I can get one for $200, I'd really like to know.

If you're looking for a solid pilot's watch then avoid all the fancy dialed up crap that pass as pilot's watches. Try this watch by Christopher Ward or this one by Tissot which is very similar to the Breitling Aerospace. Tissot and Breitling are owned by Swatch so expect similar quality.

If you must have the gadgets and bs that no one ever uses then try this Citizen, it's actually very good and light to wear.

Source : Moi. 3rd generation pilot and I use a Swatch Irony Aluminium 90% of the time because it's so light and comfortable.

Edit - Breitling is NOT owned by swatch.. I accidentally made up a thing. :D

That was actually one of the things I first liked as well over the previous design :) This display used to look more like a cockpit instrument (cool in it's own right). https://www.amazon.com/Citizen-JY0000-53E-Skyhawk-Eco-Drive-Watch/dp/B000ZPMYQI

Try Citizen Navihawk Blue Angels. It is a quartz watch, but a beauty. It has some amazing features like swapping analog/digital time at the press of a button.

Not many outlets sell it, as it has been replaced by the much more expensive Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk.

Frankly, I consider Navihawk better looking.

Citizen Eco-drive, the Skyhawk. It's radio controlled, timer, time zone, LCD and 3 hand, metal, built like a tank, and very cool (IMO). Honestly, Citizen makes several options that are more generally aesthetically appealing (though much busier on the dial) than G-shock. You can see some on amazon here.

edit: My preference is the Navihawk, I like that one the most.
