I use the Claber Oasis self-watering system for my plants. It drips a range of water amounts via up to 20 individual drippers. My largest plants use 3 drippers @ 120 ml per dripper per day for a total of 360ml/day per plant, my smallest use only 1 dripper. More drippers can be added or removed per plant (up to 20) as needed. The amount of water per dripper can be adjusted from 20ml/day to 120ml/day. The drippers are attached in-line via small rubber tubing. The system is very inexpensive at $70 shipped. Two of those may handle your 10 trees.

Non phone link. Looks pretty decent for $60. I saw these for the super cheap route.

I tried it before and the water didn't dry up be cause I had a lid on the reservoir. The problem I had was that the electronics were crap and didn't dispense the water on schedule, so the reservoir wouldn't empty. So if I try it again, I guess I'd have to find another product that actually works. Seems to me like it would be such a simple device?

This is the one I had before that was crap:

What device did you buy out of interest? If its a different device I'd be interested in getting it.

if you have the money, there are timed water dispenser you can buy for about 100bucks if i remember right. some will get some jugs and pierce a small hole in it letting drops fall slowly. also, people see it as way more bad than it really is. i went away from home for 8 days for christmas once, and when i came back the plants were in shitty shape but after a day back to normal. if you think it never happen to have 8days without rain in the wild well you should go outside more haha :P

edit: shit like that. but keep in mind its like some kind of life support and weed plants do not like to be constantly wet.

Self watering systems can be a good investment if you travel a lot and have several plants. A good friend to come over to water is another idea.

>Maybe some pipe system going behind them, with something to regulate how much water would go into it?

The "Claber Oasis" base model has a simple timer, easy to modify to override with a DC relay. Or you could build your own gravity-feed drip irrigator from parts.

> Also, what if you want to put nutrients too and spread them equally?

Most drip irrigation heads will clog when nutrients are added.

Dripworks has some really nice drip set ups, but as you have to connect it to a source of water, things are apt to happen, just about all drip systems need to be watched. How often do you plan to visit home while you are at school? There are 30 day self watering units, but depending on the size and amount of your plants, it might be easier/cheaper to set up grow lights and take them with you.

I use one of these. Not sure what is available where you are.

Im assuming that you are talking about an outdoors set up! Which to be honest I have not ever set up something outdoors. I have however, set up an Oasis Claber watering system for my bonsai indoors, and they have dripping heads. The plants seem to really enjoy the setup and are doing great.
