LPT: Buy a mechanical keyboard. You can remove the keys tops to clean it, and the keys themselves have 10x the amount of keystroke lifetime. Your fingers will also thank you :P

Its obvious that you aren't trying to spend much. Most folks will regurgitate Ducky Shine. Its a great keyboard but I'm pretty sure out of your price range.

None of those keyboards are known for their quality really. One problem with backlit keyboards is that the keys wear eventually and then you get a giant blob of backlighting instead of a letter/symbol.

Typing for long periods of time on a "slim" type keyboard is usually not recommended since users push the keys too hard and add unnecessary force to their finger joints. This could lead to long term pain. Out of the ones you picked the Logysis is probably the best but those keys still require quite a bit of force.

If you want to check out mechanical backlit keyboards and don't need the 10key pad check out the KeyCool 87 or The CM storm quickfire pro if you do need the 10key pad. Those keyboards are most likely STILL out of your price range though. If you are willing to spend that much however you could wait till /r/massdrop has the group buy on the Ducky Shine 2 which will be a very good deal for most people (I bet it'll go down to at least 120 dollars per person).

TL;DR: Rubber dome keyboards are bad but they fit your budget. Go for non-short travel ones. The Logysis is your best bet.

PS) If you decide on a mechanical keyboard check out /r/mechanicalkeyboards. You will get more information about what fits your need than people exclusively saying to buy Ducky/Filco.

Maybe something like the Das Keyboard Model S? I've heard good things about that brand. I use the CoolerMaster Storm QuickFire Pro and I've had it for a year or two, but I'm not sure if it would last for like 10 years. I really like it, though. It had media keys, too.

Browns are great for both typing and gaming. Corsairs typically don't come in Browns, but Cooler Masters do. For a better price I would go with a CM Storm Quickfire Pro.

EDIT: wow I now see how much I sound like a CM representative.

Just a quick look and I found 3 keyboards on Amazon.

  1. Steel Series 6GV2
  2. Corsair K90
  3. CoolMaster CM Storm XT

Some of them are slightly over $100 CDN. I personally use a Das keyboard with blue switches but they go for about 130 CDN but its definitely worth thinking about!

For which switch to get, you can watch youtube videos for sound to get a general idea. As for the feel of the switch, your preference will come down to what you like. You can usually find people who love a particular switch because it works for them so try to research as best you can just remember no switch color is the 'best'. You can go here and look at them in the chart or click on an individual one to research a little. The cN number is the spring pressure of the switch, so the lower the number the lighter the key press will be.

    Hope this helps a little!

Thank you all for the replies. I took all of this into consideration on my purchase. I eventually saw this and went with it:

Take a gander at /r/mechanicalkeyboards and of course try to go to a local shop in person and try out some of the different switch types. Rajface just released a video going over the switch types on both /r/mechanicalkeyboards and /r/coolermaster. Point being that its totally up to you on what feels the best. If you're looking at extended play and mostly shifting around on the WASD I would say look at something with a MX red switch as it has the lowest amount of force required to trigger.

My vote would go to this Quickfire Pro by cooler master. It features partial backlighting around the wasd cluster, window key toggle off, and options to change the polling rate on the board.

Cooler Master QuickFires tend to be quite good. This model has backlighting: CM QuickFire Pro

Do you have any preference as to what type of switch you'd like?

You'd also get the best response in /r/keyboards

Umm... Is this not it?

u/rcmast3r · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

they are a linear switch, and much quieter. I am assuming that you got the green "clicky" switch, and the reds are almost the opposite since they are linear. I would suggest something like this

I broke down and got this on amazon prime for the same price...
Cooler Master Quickfire Pro XT

You don't NEED a mechanical keyboard, and it's not worth buying one until you find one that's perfect for you, since they're pricey. But they are pretty sweet. I'm currently typing on this one, with cherry brown switches:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VDOOBU/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Love it. Its only flaw is that it's not fully backlit.

Things to consider for your purchase:
Wired or Wireless? Switch type? There are several posts in this thread highlighting the differences. Is backlighting important? Some keyboards have lighting in multiple colors! Do you want macro keys? Does it have all the media controls you want? Do you need a numpad? You can get compact ones that overlap the media controls and function keys or that lack a number pad.

Also, watch out for Razer. I had their own software completely brick a keyboard. Wiped out its firmware.

Thanks, its a Corsair Quick Fire with brown switches.

If you are willing to go with used, check that out.

Only half backlit though, but it's red with three different lighting modes.

u/The-Confused · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

According to the Amazon description, it is N-Key rollover.

You can get the Quickfire Pro for $80.

First World Problems here.

Wants 2nd Monitor for GW2

Doesn't have the space for another

...or $150. Tbh, I'd probably spend my money on buying a Cooler Master Quickfire Pro Keyboard or save up for a 3570k+Motherboard+RAM.

Well in my opinion you want a KB that will last for years and years, if you get a Razer or a Chinese MEch, they wont last as long, and then you would have invested in trash.

Now, RBG adds A LOT to the price and exactly 0 to performance, but having an illuminated KB is awesome (as in 1 color to see the keys in the dark, not for it to light up like a christmas tree) So i would recommend you drop the RGB requirement at least until you have a bigger budget.

I got this exact KB

https://www.amazon.com/CM-Storm-QuickFire-Pro-Mechanical/dp/B007VDOOBU/

And its not about straining the KB, lesser switches can fail just because, also with a cherrymx KB you will be asking for more homework or whatever so you can just type on it, forget about gaming, googling and typing is just a pleasure, SO satisfying youll wonder how you actually wrote on those pieces of crap KB before.

And i almost never recommend used hardware, but CherryMx are so damn sturdy if you get a used kb that hasnt failed, chances are it wont fail for you either (and if it by any chance it does, you can buy individual switches and replace them).

Hey - I currently have a Cooler Master Rapid Fire Pro and I'm looking to change to a TKL keyboard and wireless. I'm trying to take up a little less desk space and reduce the clutter on the desk.

I use both a PC and my work Mac - I'd like to be able to quickly swap the keyboard between the two. I have the Logitech MX Master and I'm SUPER happy about how easy it is to switch between the two - I'd love to also swap my keyboard just as easily.

I would like to have some sort of backlighting for the keyboard, preferably through-key so the letter can glow rather than just the edge lighting. A volume knob or USB passthrough would be a bonus.

My budget is pretty flexible if the keyboard fits in with our decor - I've convinced my GF that it counts as "furniture" if it fits in nicely with our mid-century modern decor. I could probably spend up to $400 if it suits all my needs.

Any suggestions? I've had a ton of trouble finding anything illuminated & mechanical & wireless... like at all.

The most popular red/black switch keyboards that are in my price range and that are actually for sale in my area are:

/r/mechanicalkeyboards for your keyboard needs.

I'd recommend the CM Storm Quickfire Pro as a good starting (full sized) board.

I designed my latest site: http://www.reddit.com/r/Design/comments/1g3i3v/my_attempt_at_teaching_myself_flat_designtook_way/

On a CM Storm Quickfire which was highly recommended to me. I use brown switches which are a bit more quiet: http://www.amazon.com/CM-Storm-QuickFire-Pro-Mechanical/dp/B007VDOOBU
