SENSITIVITY
---------------------------------

Sens is personal preference, and that's just the end of it. Here you have clockwork playing with 20"+/360, and then yz50 with a much higher sens. And they are both in Invite, and have different playstyles.

In the end, NEITHER is objectively better than the other. You can even use 1cm/360 in COUNTER-STRIKE, if you wanted to. Here's the issue...

Higher sens has a steeper learning curve.

It's much different using only your fingers to make the smallest of movements, compared to sliding your whole arm across the mousepad.

As higher sens is... well... more sensitive... there's a much larger chance you can make errors.

BUT.

This can easily be overcome with practice. Though you might spend more time training to be able to headshot soldiers out of the air with a high sens compared to a low sens, it is the same in the end.

I want you to choose a sensitivity that's COMFORTABLE for you. Don't fall into the idea that "lower is objectively better" from CS. I can assure you, it's not.

MICE
-----------------------

If you haven't already, pick up a nice mouse. Forget "positive acceleration" or "negative acceleration." I know it's a controversial stance, but choose a mouse that is COMFORTABLE, and is accurate based on what you can tell. If you can't tell a G500 has accel, and think it's just as accurate as a Zowie FK, then you can get it! If you aren't comfortable, your performance will go down.

That means no stock mice.

Make sure it won't malfunction if you swing it too fast. I don't mean at 100 miles per hour, but judge it based on the FASTEST turn you would ever do. In order to test this, I'd temporarily use clockwork's sensitivity and try to do a 360. If the mouse malfunctions (tracks oddly or keeps going after you've stopped moving) it's no good.

Laser or optical. Doesn't matter to be completely honest, as long as you're comfortable.

Some pretty good ones:

  • CM STORM SPAWN Small little mouse, great for claw grip. Rubber grips, Omrons, perfect tracking, the usual. Notable users: Platinum

  • [Logitech G500s] (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Gaming-Adjustable-Weight-Tuning/dp/B00CJD4HD2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394935251&sr=8-1&keywords=g500) A huge palm grip mouse. It's laser, but some people like Taggerung love it. Comfortable, and widely available. Notable users: Taggerung

  • Zowie FK Some say it has the best tracking of any mouse ever created. Sensei-style small-ish mouse, claw/fingertip grip. Mine comes in the mail the 20th. However, not widely available. Try a Sensei to get an idea of how this feels. Notable users of it's predecessor: cookye

  • Logitech G400s Typical, super-ergonomic overengineered palm-grip mouse from Logitech. Perfect sensor. Inspired by the fabled MX518. If you hear about issues with the cable, Logitech has excellent customer service and will help you out in a heartbeat. Notable users: enigma, ruwin, PYYOUR, TLR, b4nny

I'm going to say to keep away from Razer mice. Had a couple bad experiences with them. Like when my Deathadder from 3 months ago broke when I was just browsing Reddit... (Piece that contacted with the Omron Switch snapped... in half.)

    Choose what works for you.

    MOUSE SETTINGS
    ---------------------------

Mouse accel. Mouse accel. Unless you're dead set on it, like Swag from Complexity, turn it off. TF2 doesn't have linear acceleration, so the learning curve for it is ridiculous.

Turn it off in both TF2's settings AND Windows (Enhance Pointer Precision)

This will improve your consistently drastically.

Throw on Raw Input to bypass all of the strange calculations Windows puts on mice.

Keep Windows Sens to 6/11, so the computer won't have to "scale" your movements up or down.

    "BODYSHOTTING IS FOR LOSERS"
    -----------------------------------

Go ahead and sit on your scope. If you don't feel confident you can hit the target, aim for center mass, charge the scope up, and fire. Who cares, if that bodyshot gets you a pick on the enemy med?

This also leads up to playing passively. Some snipers DO play this way. Watching chokes. Not being inside them. I'm one of them. This will alleviate tons of stress, and it will really reduce the chance that you can get killed. How's a scout supposed to reach you if you're on Roof on Badwater, and he can't see you?

    MOST IMPORTANT THING
    ------------------------------

Chill out. Listen to some music. Remember games are meant to have fun, not stress over. If you're having a rough day on Sniper, switch it up! Scout's a good way to practice hitscan without actually playing Sniper. Taunt after every kill. Throw in a huntsman every once in a while.

Once you begin to become great at Sniper, it'll be second nature. And you'll genuinely enjoy the class too.

Oh, and getting accused of hacking. Get to that level, and it's the most hillarious thing in TF2.

    Oh.

    And...

Practice... A lot. Many good Snipers have hundreds of hours on that class. It will fall into place in time.

    And be confident.

Definitely go with the mouse unless your keyboard is malfunctioning. Gaming keyboards are useful to have sometimes but not essential like a decent gaming mouse. Just make sure that the mouse you buy works well with how you play, the type of grip you use, palm or claw/fingertip.

In short, you either palm the mouse with your entire hand, moving your arm to move the mouse, or you "claw" it, grabbing it with your finger tips and moving it just with your wrist. Knowing which grip you prefer and getting a mouse that fits it well goes a long way to eliminate wrist pain and fatigue.

Personally, I claw grip and use the CM Storm Spawn. Best mouse I've ever used for my style of play due to its small size and design. (So good I bought a second one for my laptop.) It goes up to 3500 DPI but IMO the 1800 DPI preset is perfect for most all games. If I need more precision I take it down to the 800 DPI preset and if I need more look speed (i.e. BF3 vehicles) I go up to the 3500 DPI preset.

Other good options are the G500 and the Deathadder , both of which many people swear by. They're better for palm grip IMO though due to their size.

TL;DR Go with the mouse and pick one that fits your hand and style of play well.

I just recently picked up Corsair Raptor LK1 keyboard for $25 from Frys. It's nothing fancy, but I'd say it's a pretty good buy for a keyboard I can roll my face across without getting those pings due to ghosting.

For mice, it's a little harder to recommend due to hand sizes and whatnot, but if you've got relatively small hands (or like small mice) like myself you might want to take a look at the CM Storm Spawn gaming mouse. Right now it's $60 marked down to $35 and has a $15 rebate on Amazon. Planning on picking one of these up for myself when I've got the cash. If you don't like the red coloring, there is a black version, but I don't think the buttons are programmable on it.

Here's some links for the products:

  • Corsair Raptor LK1 keyboard - Corsair, Frys
  • CM Storm Spawn Mouse - CoolerMaster, Amazon

Edit: I didn't feel right about recommending something that I didn't own, so I went ahead and bought that mouse (was planning to do so anyways). Amazon says it'll be here on the 15th, so if you're interested I'll come back and report my findings when it arrives.

Fucking hell, I had a whole response written out and my browser crashed.

Rewriting, but paraphrasing this time.

---------

The CoolerMaster Storm Spawn is often recommended for claw grip users. It's cheap at $37, has a great sensor, is made of good quality materials, and is quite light and small. This mouse is for high sens players, if that means much to ya, heh.

An alternative is the Zowie EC2 eVo, quite a bit more expensive, but it has a flawless sensor, really nice rubber on it that doesn't make your hand sweat, a really light cable, no drivers to much with, large mouse feet for dat glide - also comes with a spare pair of mouse feet, and the scroll wheel is quite "notchy"/heavy which is nice in FPS games but not so great when web browsing. But this mouse will set you back $64, so it's up to you.

Keyboards...

I would watch /r/buildapcsales for deals on CoolerMaster mechanical keyboards, the good prices on those are between $50-75. The CM keyboards use a lot of the same components as in one of the top mechanical kb brands, Filco. However, if you don't want to wait for a sale on that, then I suggest Filco's rival, Leopold, which is tied with Filco in best quality for mech kb's under $150 - and they don't have the "gamer" look to them like the CM keyboards. I'd go with Cherry Red switches (they are nice and light, great for gaming). The Leopold boards are built like tanks, they will last forever.

Hope that helps.

edit - Oops, I forgot mousepads.

Personally, I would go with something big and cheap. The SteelSeries Qck+ has served myself and many others very well. But if you don't want cloth, and want something smaller with a harder surface maybe take a look at the SteelSeries 9HD or if you are a true high-sens baller the SteelSeries Experience I-2 (glass mouse pad...too bad they only have pink ones on Amazon now, lol).

I would opt for the Storm Spawn over the Recon.

I think most prefer the switches on it, and I believe it tracked slightly better. All that said, if you can pick up a G400, I'd go for that. It's a really nice mouse for the price.

u/M1ndl355 · 2 pointsr/MouseReview

For your grip style and coming from a G9x I'd have to recommend the CoolerMaster Storm Spawn. Yes, the red mouse is better than the black one, due to the different sensor.

u/voodoomonkey616 · 2 pointsr/GirlGamers

I've no personal experience with small mice as I don't use them, but I have read good things about the CM Storm Spawn.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Take a look at the Cooler Master Spawn if you claw grip.

u/Appealing_Biscuit · 1 pointr/wow

My razer died on me and I had to buy something cheaper, picked this up http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004RJJMBI/ref=pd_aw_sbs_e_4?pi=SY115

It is actually a really great mouse for the price and it is way more comfortable imo

u/Rickykrudd · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Recently purchased a CoolerMaster Spawn. It's a claw grip mouse and I am very happy with its quality and performance.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RJJMBI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's on sale right now for 40 bucks!

u/gravyenema · 1 pointr/MouseReview

CMStorm Spawn is leagues better than the Xornet, in both sensor and build quality. The Perixx is only rebrand of a crappy Chinese OEM mouse and you will just have headaches. If you like CMStorm's style then I highly suggest you take a look at the Recon

If you can wait, the G400 and Deathadder drop below $40 very often.

Cooler Master Storm Spawn

Most comfortable mouse I've ever owned and designed specifically for claw grip.

u/ChipSalsa · 1 pointr/MouseReview

The Cooler Master Spawn is a mouse made just for claw or fingertip grips. The [Zowie FK1] (http://www.amazon.com/Zowie-Gear-Gaming-Mouse-FK1/dp/B00LIQE8EO/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1427073626&sr=8-17&keywords=ambidextrous+gaming+mouse) is an ambidextrous mouse, and I have heard good things about it. I would recommend a steelseries sensei, but laser sensors have hardware acceleration.

I'm also a claw-gripper, I own a R.A.T. 7 and find that to be a very nice mouse. You can adjust its shape and weight a lot so you can make it fit to your hand better.

However, it is a bit expensive. If you don't want to spend that much I'd suggest going for the Logitech G9X, its similar to the R.A.T 7 in size/shape and it can also be customized to your needs. My friend has one so I can attest to its quality and I have used it.

If that is still out of your budget I'd suggest the CM Storm Spawn. It is a very affordable claw-grip mouse, but it is just as high in quality as mice twice its price. It doesn't have any customization options but it is built with optimizations for natural claw-grippers.

TL;DR: R.A.T. 7 = ~$90, Logitech G9X = ~$60, CM Storm Spawn = ~$35 Buy whichever is within your budget.

If you hold the mouse with a claw grip than this is an awesome mouse and it is cheap.

CM Spawn

u/Brawny661 · 1 pointr/keyboards

In everything I've read about them, it's either a pro gamer that is required to use one as a sponsorship, or it's a relatively inexperienced user who has moved up from their Dell mouse. The ambidextrous design means your pinky gets way cramped. See the CM Spawn for my ideal pinky placement.

Could go for another CM Storm Xornet or go for the similar CM Storm Spawn.

There's the Logitech G402+G502 which are bigger/heavier mouses (G402 being lighter than the G502) without pinky support.

Deathadder is really great for palm grip but again it's bigger/heavier and there's not as much pinky support (grips on the side give some pinky support).

I have a CM Storm and love it. Same quality as razer, good ergonomics plus on-board profiles, plenty of buttons and a really nice light setup for a decent price. More than the price you're asking for, but so is every other decent mouse.

I did find a sale on a decent gaming mouse by the same company:

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Optical-Sensor-SGM-2000-MLON1/dp/B004RJJMBI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330637679&sr=8-1

CM Storm Spawn

Great for hybrid types, I am also claw/fingertip and this is my current mouse. It is smaller more stubby, short top to bottom wise, than other mice I have used. It seemed helps with the fingertip grip since the bottom of the mouse doesn't bump against the palm much at all. Although, since you have big hands it might be a bit small for you and have better luck with the m60. It was way to wide for me. I constantly had to choke up on the mouse to hit the side buttons, but it maybe great for you.

Corsair m60/65

This is an older pic I seen long ago but its got some different types on there.

u/ProblemHaters · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Gah! Nevermind, anyways :P I was looking at a CM Storm Spawn anyway \^^

u/Pufflekun · 0 pointsr/pcgaming

Zowies for palm grip, CM Storm Spawn for claw or fingertip grip.

(Don't get the black one, it's a cheaper model with an inferior sensor.)
