How will you know if something is AMD rated vs Intel rated? Will it always mention it?

I ask because I have Ryzen 2700x with Corsair LPX (16gbx2) 3200Mhz RAM but I can't seem to get it to run at the 3200 Mhz. It is this set in particular in case it matters. It doesn't seem to mention AMD or Intel.

Sold a much better PC, for the same price.

2600 used has been going for around 100, 2700x sits near 120.

2060 used is about 300, while 1660 I'd say around 150 possibly.

32gigs of RAM is $150-170 new, so about $120 used, while 8 gigs is only like $40.

This is a deal I got from someone, sold me 2x16 RAM for 100 here - https://www.reddit.com/r/hardwareswap/comments/dmjtla/usadeh_corsair_lpx_32gb_dram_3000mhz_c15_2x_16gb/

Not tryna like shit on you, but, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/g3qmk6, is your build. Basically charging retail price w/o tax, but there's no guarantee of warranty, no boxes if the person ever wanted to sell these items back, because, it's already cancer trying to ship a whole pc, let alone a cpu with no box, that has fragile pins.

Here's the thing, PC is new, so I'll give you that, and the 1st post is obviously a very good price, and I'm comparing used, I think you're better off trying to part out.

u/Scraps23 · 4 pointsr/MurderedByWords

Those specs are sub-par at best, and an absolute scam at worst. 8GB of RAM and 1TB of HDD for a $1700 machine?! There should be at least 16GB and an SSD for the OS at that price point.

In just 5 minutes I threw together an equivalent PC on Amazon for about half the price ($890: mobo, ram, gpu, cpu, hdd, display, mouse + keyboard, case.

Now how about you take a look at a PC with a similar price point? ($1680 : mobo, ram, gpu, cpu, ssd, hdd, same display, same mouse + keyboard, same case)

u/zakkyb · 4 pointsr/Amd

Thanks for the comments everyone, they were very helpful. I ended up getting:

AMD 3600X (the 3700X was $100 more)

32GB of Corsair LPX (crazy how cheap RAM is now, went with 32gb instead of 16gb)

MSI X570 Gaming Edge mobo

Came out to $630 with a free copy of BL3

Everything looks good imo, although you'll definitely want to pick up another Noctua A9 PWM fan for the cpu cooler as it only comes with 1 fan. Also I would look for some low profile ram as they will prolly interfere with the cpu cooler, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-2x16GB-3200MHz-Memory-CMK32GX4M2B3200C16/dp/B016ORTNI2/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=corsair+lpx+2x16gb&qid=1555870384&s=electronics&sr=1-6

Also have to agree the 750 psu is prolly a bit overkill, but up to you lol.

Some thermal paste as well if you don't have any: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZJS8Q6S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, instead of watercooling later, why not slap on an Accelero III on the gpu instead? https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Accelero-Xtreme-III-CrossFire/dp/B007YLUCKQ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=accelero+III&qid=1555870038&s=electronics&sr=1-1-catcorr

I debated going watercooling for a while too, and unless you plan to do some serious overclocking, I personally don't see the need for it. I have an Accelero III on my 2080 with a custom fan profile, and I can barely hear the fans when running demanding games. I hover between 60-64 degrees Celsius with an overclock and my fans don't spin up past 1500 rpm.

If you do plan on going with the Accelero, I'd recommend getting these fans on the bottom of the case as exhaust: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C5VG64V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You'd basically get rid of the fan shroud on the stock Accelero and have the bottom fans set to exhaust. I have another A12 fan on the side bracket as intake as well, but that's up to you. I'm considering putting a 3.5mm hdd on there instead.

I do need to walk back my statement for the RAM, though. For some bizarre reason, Amazon's RAM is really expensive still. I did manage to snag https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016ORTNI2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

for 225, and it was worth the extra couple of bucks to me to get it literally the next morning.

u/Kierphe · 1 pointr/buildapc

> I'm not sure that I'm interested in overclocking as I don't really understand the reason to overclock.

It's getting more for your dollar. It's paying, say, $100 for a component and getting $140 worth of performance out of it. You can also overclock high end stuff to get even more out of that as well.

> ASRock OC Formula 170

It doesn't make sense to buy that motherboard (I actually have the same one) unless you're going to be overclocking. You're paying for functionality you're not going to use.

> G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-4000 Memory

If I were you, I'd get 32GB of DDR-3200 (like this, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016ORTNI2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) rather than 16GB of DDR-4000, given what you want to do with it.

> Samsung 960 Pro 1.0TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $629.99 @ B&H
Storage Samsung 960 Pro 2.0TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

Respectfully, I don't think it makes sense to buy two different capacities of 960. You can buy two identical ones and run them in RAID 0 for absolutely crazy performance -- that's what I'd do -- there's no reason to spend so much money on so much fast capacity, though. If you need large amounts of space, I'd buy a mechanical or hybrid drive and use the 1TB or 2TB Samsung 960 for the OS/games/etc.

> EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card

This is a great video card, but a single 1080 probably isn't going to run games at 4k with 60+ FPS for very long -- if one can even manage that. Make sure you look at reviews for the card, and it should show you what it'll do for modern games, and count on games' complexity increasing as time goes on.

> Also, the motherboard says this "3 x SATA Express 10Gb/s Connectors Support to be announced M2_1, SATA3_0, SATA3_1 and SATA_EXP0 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled. M2_2, SATA3_2, SATA3_3 and SATA_EXP1 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled. * M2_3, SATA3_4, SATA3_5 and SATA_EXP2 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled."
If anyone could tell me in layman's terms what that means for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. As always, feel free to ask questions.

The chipset the MOBO you picked out, Z170, like any chipset, has a limited amount of bandwidth going from the MOBO to the CPU. It's an interface called DMI, and it only has so many "lanes." While M.2 drives (like your Samsung 960) are in use, it seals away the SATA ports for other things you might need to hook up to the motherboard, like a Blu-ray drive, or another non-M.2 SSD, etc. Your motherboard, though, comes with a non-Intel controller that you can also plug SATA connections into, that aren't very good for hard drives, but would be totally fine for an optical drive or other small thing.

I have a very similar build to what you've laid out - same CPU, same motherboard, same video card, etc -- my case is the NZXT Phantom 820 (it's expensive, $250). It's also enormous, way bigger than most people need so I wouldn't recommend it, even though I love it. I'm planning to re-use this thing for many years and builds, so I wanted the most space possible.

u/Xifar_ · 1 pointr/sffpc

I ran CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark to check that my SSD is not messing up, the info shows 100% health and the mark shows great results with a max temp of 49C.

So, I'm guessing RAM and SSD are in the clear. I'm running Prime95 to check the CPU. After that I'll try Cinebench and then Furmark to check the GPU.

I'm still afraid to open the start menu or the web browser because it might cause the pc to hang.

Edit:

This is a bit of a different question but I got this RAM: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016ORTNI2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it's running at 2133MHz on the BIOS, and HWiNFO shows it running at 1600MHz. I admit I didn't check it's compatibility with my motherboard, do you think that would be causing all these problems? If so what 2x16GB kit should I get to replace it?

Edit2:

I'm fairly certain it's the GPU now, I ran Cinebench CPU and it finished without a hitch, but the moment I tried to run OpenGL Cinebench stopped responding and the computer froze.

Is there any fix for the GPU or should I just return it and get another one?

Edit3:

I rebooted and ran Cinbench OpenGL and Furmark, they both passed :/

I'm really lost here, what could be the problem with my build?

Just went for 32GB of the corsair vengeance at 3200Mhz seeing as it the cheapest I've seen it in a long time. That'll be more than enough for me.

u/shabbirh · 1 pointr/Amd

No problems at all I have four Corsair 3200 dimms (2 matched sets - with versions 5.29 and 5.32) and no issues at all - these are the ones that I use https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016ORTNI2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - absolutely no issues at all - I'm using an MSI MEG X570 ACE and a Ryzen 9 3900x.

u/akhezrey · 1 pointr/Amd

Sorry im a bit confused? So will the MEG x570 Ace fully support this RAM (based on its MHz)

1600X or 1700?

Apparently ram is $400 which is completely absurd so I guess I'll need to wait a while. In August it was $300

I've already got 24gb of DDR3 so I'd like to upgrade the capacity if I do upgrade the computer.

Quad Channel or Dual channel with room to upgrade?

u/Syphonsama · 1 pointr/buildapc

Should be this

I got lucky and got a sticks with Samsung memory. From what I read Samsung has the best possibility of running at rated speeds.

Thank you so much for the build. I have some questions:

  1. Wouldn't this memory kit be better: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-163301-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B016ORTNI2 ?
  2. How do I know which memory is the best for the 3700x?
  3. Will this PC play games comfortably on high / ultra?

    Thank you sir :)
u/theSkareqro · 1 pointr/buildapc

RAM: Cheaper ram Not gonna stop you though if you have a look preference but that price difference is fucking insane.

Storage: I personally would just get a 500gb Samsung PRO 960 M.2 SSD for boot and important programs and a Samsung EVO 850 1tb SSD for everything else. It's more economical.

Sorry to bring you back, but do you have any tips on if the RAM being CL15,CL16, or just without CL entirely?

Is 32GB of RAM at 3200Mhz sufficient for making 3D games? Or are there higher specs that are recommended/lower specs that are enough? Currently I'm looking at these two options, so I'm hoping they're enough.

Hello again, my trusted resident pc pal- Thanks for your help so far! Just got an annoying message from Amazon that my order for the Night Hawk memory I bought has been cancelled :/

Looking now to find a replacement DDR4 3200, 32GB (2x16GB), 288-pin part. Found this Corsair LPX and G.Skill Ripjaws V. Will either of these work just as well? Thoughts?

And no, RGB is not important, and I am still planning the build so none of the parts outside of a SSD have been purchased yet. Still have not even planned most other parts such as the motherboard or case.

Scan, although Amazon has them too.

[Edit] Well, Amazon appears to have them on pre-order, but trust me, they do exist. They arrived and I installed them.

Today the same set is £365.71

oof!

u/DuduOson · 0 pointsr/buildapc

You have no idea what you're talking about. That's 2666Mhz CL19. Do you have any clue how far that is from 3600Mhz CL16? Do you honestly believe that the slight benefit of having only 2 DIMMs will magically allow them to OC that high?

u/CapableWizard, I would recommend this. It's less expensive and much better performing. However, you're never going to see 64GB of 3600Mhz CL16 outside of highly binned B-die, which is out of your budget.
