For older children, it's a booster seat. All it does really is put the seatbelt strap against your chest as opposed to digging into your neck.
7-8 is really at the very end of the age recommendation for a booster seat unless maybe they are very small. Good luck getting a 7 year old who isn't used to sitting in one to use it. My kid is finally big enough for a backless booster! We got this one on Amazon and it’s been great. Color really pops on the white seats too!
