Cowboy Magic. Seriously. My daughter's hair isn't all that thick but it is long (she wants it down to her booty) and she can get some CRAZY tangles.

I squirt a little in my hands, oh between a pea and a marble size, rub them together and start running my hands and fingers through her hair. Goes on wet or dry. Doesn't feel greasy on the skin. And if there's a particular nasty snarl, a more direct application, rubbed in with your fingertips, will make it let go.

Depends on the coat. I can see from your history you have a baby, around the time where they have a weird crossover coat that kind of is frizzy. I really love Cowboy Magic which most of the people I know swear by for spot detangling. I would use a good longer toothed comb (this comb is awesome, I tried to buy it at a dog show but they didn't have it so I have the one with two teeth spacings). We massage the Cowboy Magic into the tangle and tease it out with the widest part of the comb, then the narrower part of the comb.

Ive got a couple, because I have no impulse control.

for difficult tangles I use cowboy magic.

For just normal brushing when theyre a LIL tangly, but nothing serious I mostly use this one. It smells like those strawberry candies old people sometimes have. It's the go to when theyve come in from rain or snow, or when theyve had an excessive amount of fun at the dog park.

and this one is what I generally use to brush em out after a bath/towel dry cause it makes them super soft.

Biggest thing in the winter is to make sure you keep their paw pads trimmed, and any extra side fluff trimmed down to foot size. The fluffy feet are like mud sponges.

I sometimes use water in a spray bottle, but not always. Doing it dry probably increase the hair breakage some, but I don't have show dogs and they don't seem to care one way or the other. ;)

My Sheltie has hair like a Keeshond, and I do most of his grooming with the poodle. It's great for deshedding!

My Briard has hair that's... more like a poodle's? I line brush Cowboy Magic into his hair and it is a godsend. It's not a spray, though.
