I've never heard of a bell being stolen.

The best bells--by far, in my opinion--are the basic Crane bells like this. They are very loud and they really say "bike!". Many bells are way too quiet, it's obvious they were tested in quiet places, not NYC.

you want to buy one of these but you want it to be "Crane" brand. higher quality parts means better ringtone.

you can get a crane brass bell on amazon. I bought one for a friend - it's really loud and quite a nice sound.
