THIS book, written in '94, accurately predicted the current state of the American crime control industry.

The prison rate in 7 times what it is in Canada. Are Canadians 7 times less likely to be criminals? Or is there something else going on?

>a shitshow of people being paid to get results rather than justice

This is actually how everything in the world works, generally speaking. And "results" don't really matter so much as the appearance of results.

The lumber industry consumes trees and the crime control industry consumes people. This is how it works. Justice has so little to do with it.

I don't have time to read through all the comments but I majored in criminology and I'd say that this is probably the most interesting thing that I was able to learn in four years.
