Crucial DDR4 is always a good bet. I've been buying crucial for decades and have never had a bad stick.

Ha. Yep, and it's easy. The T470 will take up to 32GB of RAM, and this is the right type: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB6HQ

Especlially if you are really scraping by, buy the laptop with the minimum 4GB and add 8GB, for a total of 12GB in the short term, and that'd probably be more than enough for document editing.

Hope this helps! Never had a single issue except for for my monitors sometimes showing black areas within specific applications (outlook). Hope this helps, and congratulations on the new thinkpad!

Just FYI, this is the best RAM you can buy w/ amazon prime (16gbx1 stick). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015YPB6HQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Great for an upgrade!

I have a Dell E5570 and I have 32gb RAM. For me, this system is extremely responsive with 32gb RAM.

Here is the specific RAM that I bought for my Dell E5570

Tested with mine, no sleep heat and no battery drain while sleeping. The computer was on the whole day at home (10 hours) and I couldn't feel any heat from the bottom. The battery level was the same 77% than it was in the morning.

Same one but different size: Crucial 16GB Single DDR4 2133 MT/s (PC4-17000) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFD8213 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015YPB6HQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_s11tybXMDN1TX

So I'm buying a T470 with 4GB DDR4-2133 SODIMM I was planning on just adding a stick of this https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB6HQ
Will that work?

u/pumpkinwithmustache · 1 pointr/thinkpad

I'm about to order one.

Planning to go with this single 16GB Crucial RAM stick for now (https://smile.amazon.com/Crucial-8GBx2-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB6HQ). And probably this 512GB Sata (not sure that the speed difference will matter much to me) SSD: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820215017. $100 for the RAM, $140 for SSD.

u/pablomoca · 1 pointr/thinkpad

If 2133Mhz is the max the RAM runs at, would this then be a good option for added RAM?

Crucial 16GB

u/ffxsam · 1 pointr/thinkpad

I have a single 16GB DDR4-2133MHz stick right now, so as long as I buy a second of the exact same specs, it should be fine, right? https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB6HQ

FYI your post was removed because you didnt remove the ref part of the amazon url.

This is an acceptable version of your link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015YPB6HQ

the 250gb 850 evo is a very affordable and fast drive, so is the the 500 (which right now is way more gb/$ than the 250).

PCIe SSD are still overpriced and a poor match to an ultrabook use case.

RAM is dirt cheap now too. Just throw 16gb DDR4 in. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB6HQ/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468871941&sr=1-5&keywords=ddr4+so-dimm
