I'd recommend the Crucial MX300 525GB. It's $123 when not on sale, for a substantial amount of space.
Samsung is nice, but you're paying a large premium for the name. The other brands recommend are good too, but the Crucial is my personal favorite.

Same size as your existing HDD but instead of 5400 RPM you'll have SSD performance. Crucial is well-regarded and you're going to see a huge improvement in performance. Boot time, app start-up/shut-down, game load time, etc. All will be better.
If you're serious about doing it right you'll do a fresh install of Windows in case you're harboring something on your existing setup. If not, a clone will be OK too.

The HP's screen is probably much better: IPS on the HP vs TN (check the reviews on the Dell site). You're also right to be concerned about battery life, the HP has a slightly smaller battery, 61 Wh vs 74 Wh. I'd expect about 5 hours on the HP to 6 hours on the Dell, but that's just an educated guess.
Honestly, unless you can afford to upgrade the Dell's screen, I'd go for the HP for the screen and savings. You can even put the money saved towards an SSD and swap out the hard drive; that is a upgrade that can make miles of difference compared to anything else you can reasonably change about these two models. For example: SSD
EDIT: It looks like the laptops actually have two storage slots. You also have the option of adding in an SSD into the second slot like this one and installing Windows onto it, while keeping the 1 TB HDD as storage for videos, games, etc.

SSD = solid state drive. A hard drive with no moving parts, and all flash based memory. Considerably faster than standard HDD. Samsung and Intel are considered the "fastest", most reliable SSD's and charge a premium. Other brands are close to as fast, and are considerably cheaper.
For instance you can find a 500GB Samsung drive for about $170, whereas you can get a Crucial 525GB drive for less than $130. Both would be viable options. All depends what you want to spend and how much room you want to have on your drive.

It's literally plug and play with that case. Comes with the cables and no need to do anything fancy. Just insert drive into case, no screws to use and plug it into the Xbox One with the cord that comes with the case.

Adding the ram will definitely improve performance. 4gb isn't enough to run the newer OS well. You'd have to get all new 2x4gb sodimm 1333 Mhz ram since there are only two slots.
Depending on how much money you want to put into it, an SSD will also improve performance greatly. You'll have apps open almost instantly.
You won't see a change in performance with a new battery, but you won't have to keep it plugged in constantly.
After these improvements you'd spend around 200 bucks. For that laptop its definitely worth it, you won't get better performance for that price. Don't expect to be doing major gaming, but you can do quite a bit on it.
You could always sell it. You'd be hard pressed to find something with similar performance with the few hundred bucks you'd make but you could put that towards something better.

There's not much performance difference gaming-wise between the 1600 and 1700. Note that either of these comes with a Wraith Spire CPU fan, which is very good and fairly quiet. You don't need to pay for a separate AIO cooler (unless you just want one anyway).
There's not much real-world difference between a good 2.5" SATA III SSD and an M.2 NVMe SSD, despite the large difference in specs. In my most recent upgrade, I went from a Samsung 840 EVO SSD to a 960 EVO NVMe M.2. It's pretty hard to tell the difference, unless you do a lot of very large file transfers every day.
You could cut cost by getting a Crucial MX300 525 GB SSD ($160 on Amazon) as your boot drive and something like a 1 TB Caviar Blue.
I would put a GTX 1050 ti in there to get the most out of your A10 CPU. The integrated graphics can run WoW but it's not ideal. GTX 1050 ti is really ideal here, going much higher and you're looking at noticing the limitations of your CPU too often. Your A10 is fine for it's price, but it's not really in the same class with GTX 1060 and higher, those are best paired with a Haswell or Skylake quad. A balanced system will run consistently, whereas an unbalanced system will run very well in some titles and comparatively not very well in others.
SSD would definitely be the second best upgrade, check out Crucial's new MX300 for really good price per gig and a good solid product with acceptable speeds. If you get a 1050 ti and a 525gb MX300 you're looking at like $260 ish to make that thing scream.

a few thoughts: why 6th gen and not 7th gen? If you're on windows 10, I'd get 7th gen. Speaking of windows 10, I don't see a windows license, they're about $100 on amazon. Make sure you get 64 bit.
SSDs are worth it. You can drop the 1TB spinny and get a decent 525GB SSD for an extra $100.

Personally I would just sell the whole HP desktop on Ebay as some old person will probably buy it for a couple three hundred. Then you can just add that money to the ~$100 you would have spend on a mobo. So you are at about $300-400...add a couple cnotes and you should be able to build a decent rig around that 1050.

SSDs have gotten more affordable over time. They cost about $0.22-0.25/GB right now and their expected cost will be about $0.17/GB a year from now. This is still worse than the $0.05/ GB of an hard drive, but their performance is worth the added cost.
You can get a 500GB model (which can actually store a decent amount of data) for about $120, such as this one, and use the laptop's original hard drive as an external one by putting it in a cheap enclosure and SATA to USB converter.
Having a second's worth of delay on switching apps or loading a large file, or about 15-30 on starting up the OS might not seem like much, but it really adds up throughout the laptop's lifetime.
As a bonus, SSDs are also more resistant to impacts and vibration due to having no moving parts.

Well I ended up getting the 525 GB version for $130 at Amazon, since the old laptop I'll be putting it is is probably more likely to fail for some other reason before I end up needing the additional space.
I have this mobo would i be able to put in anything faster? I really want a insanely fast boot up time i already have this sdd and more speed is becoming more and more of a want for me. I dont want to waste money on something like a Samsung drive that's only around 10-20mbps faster but costs 100-200$.

Check the specs with your serial number on the Apple site. I replaced a drive in a similar model few months ago. Highly likely that you have a HDD and not SSD... You'll see the difference in speed and is totally worth the upgrade non the less. Just ensure you buy a compatible SSD. Apple is quite fussy when it comes to compatibility. I always use Crucial SSDs, they always work. Here's what I usually use.

You will not have enough space for NMM + mods + skyrim on that SSD and trust me, running an SSD at more than 80 percent capacity is a horrible idea (especially if its your OS drive.)

As for case recommendations, depends on your taste. Some widely know cases are the NZXT S340 and S340 Elite, Corsair Carbide 400C, NZXT H440 and the Phanteks P400S. All of these are less than $100. If wanted I can look into more ~$70 cases like the S340.

I'd say that the PNY SSD is a decent deal for sure. I'm a big fan of Crucial's SSD line. I've installed many of these for customers and never had an issue (yet) and run a BX200 in my X220 for a couple years now. $139.99 US for the 525GB MX300 now. This will be a much better route than the slower SD card. However, if you're not using SD cards for anything else and don't care about speed, there's certainly no harm in throwing one in there for extra storage, but I do not recommend it for running your main OS and programs/apps.
The fast RAM and overclockable CPU are important to pushing the high framerates you're looking for, so I wouldn't recommend compromising on those.
Your SSD, however, could be quite a bit cheaper.

Crucial recently released an MX300 model SSD which is still roughly the same price as the older MX200. It's also slightly larger in size. The 525GB model of the MX300 is $100, that might be worth throwing the extra money at.

I actually meant a cheaper brand, rather than cheaper than the overall price. For example, at $10 more than what you've currently spec'ed, you can get a Crucial 525GB unit.
If you're just looking for a cheaper SSD, the PNY 240GB unit should work.

I was using a Lexar JumpDrive S75 but recently moved everything over to a Crucial MX300 in an external case because I needed more space.
That's a typical 2.5" drive bay. Any SATA HD of that size should fit. The SSD's are the same size as the ATA styles.
Super fast SSD Amazon pull. I'm not suggesting or recommending the drive. You'll need to look around for one that suits your needs.
It does sound like RAM is the more likely cause though either upgrade would benefit.
You can look at what's causing the bottleneck yourself by running Activity Monitor or a RAM monitoring app and seeing if the RAM is peaking at the same time as you notice the freezing. I used this on my old 13" MBP, realised the RAM wasn't the issue, upgraded the SSD instead and got a good performance boost. However, in your case as I mentioned it does seem the RAM is more likely the cause.
If you don't mind opening your computer at home then you could save a lot of money off their upgrade pricing. You can do either upgrade at home by following iFixit guides with parts bought off Amazon. Here is the 16GB RAM and the SSD (these were just the first products I found after a quick search, if you find the exact part number you can find them even more cheaply but check that they're good quality and won't just fail).

No problem. You might want to look for a cheap but reliable SSD as well, as they have gone down in price quite a bit.. Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial MX300 go for around 150USD in 500Gb capacity (versus comparison). Look for sales.. I just quick added these.
It would certainly help with caching issues, however don't expect a boost in loading times in GTA V/Online because of how server dependant the game is even when playing in SP.

Like I said, there is literally no reason to get anything other than MX300/850 EVO when concerning TLC drives.
I would recommend an SSD from Crucial or Samsung.

There's a couple kinds of SSD: 2.5" drives connected though SATA, PCIE based SSDs and then the dedicated slot M.2 and U.2.
SATA SSD speeds are limited by the SATA port itself but the drives are still much faster than spinning HDDs and are easy to install since they're compatible with any build.
PCIE based SSDs as I understand it were useful before M.2 and U.2 slots were as popular as they are now because you could still install them in any computer with a PCIE slot open. But they take up a lot of space and have basically been replaced by the M.2 standard.
M.2 use dedicated PCIE lanes and have a dedicated spot on the motherboard.
So when looking at SSDs you're basically considering m.2 or SATA.
You're budget, storage needs, transfer speed preferences, and motherboard are going to guide you one way or another.

It is very likely I will go with the Evo 850 based on the fact that I've used a laptop with 256gb storage since I graduated high school and haven't come close to filling it up. (Therefore am familiar with the size). Historically I play one game at a time so uninstalling inactive ones to save space seems like a logical practice. I am not per say praising ADATA but they are having some awesome deals like that one and the SU900 and they are also my second go-to choice along with Micron after Samsung. Micron/ADATA are both solid budget SSDs. I have never dealt with SanDisk but I actually have one in my system that I got couple weeks ago so I am still testing it but it doesn't have 3D TLC.
ADATA provides good warranty and is reliable as far as budget SSDs go. I wouldn't see performance degradation until a couple of years of high usage but that degradation would barely be noticable when dealing with SSD speeds.

Micron is pretty reliable and compared to ADATA they might have a little bit more credibility and life span/support. The micron mx300 will cost you a bit more and it is 3D TLC so it should be on par with a normal MLC SSD.

SSD's changed my life. The model and size depends on your budget.
I currently have a Crucial MX300(way faster than a hardrive but slower than my Samsung) and a Samsung 950 Pro. Here is the Samsung 960 Evo (newer)
That model can go up to 16GB of RAM and easily allows the install of a new hard drive. That amount of RAM will cost you about $64 and a 500GB HDD will cost you about $120. I did both of those upgrades to a friend's mid-2012 MBP and the difference is night and day. Definitely go for it. It'll even get you a few more years out of the laptop.
Also, you don't necessarily need a fresh install of OSX. Just use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current drive to the SSD. You'll probably want to get an external enclosure ($13) to plug the SSD in to clone it. Once it's done cloning, replace the HDD with the SSD and you'll be good to go. You can then put the old HDD in the external enclosure and format it to use as an external hard drive.

I'm assuming this is CAD$ or AUD$? Because in the US, a 500GB SSD can be had for $145 and a 2TB FireCuda is $100.
I can't really recommend the 2.5" version of the FireCuda drives. The 3.5" one is good for gaming since the actual HDD portion of it is 7200rpm, but the 2.5" version is 5400rpm. Even with the hybrid component, that difference is large and easily noticeable.
If you're on a laptop and forced to 2.5" drives, a bigger SSD (despite the cost) is your best bet if you're concerned enough about performance to get an SSHD. 7200rpm drives kill battery life in laptops, and the SSHD bit of a 5400rpm FireCuda really only helps with your most commonly played games. If you switch between games a lot, it won't help much at all since only bits and pieces of every game will be cached.

I have this hard drive but no included SATA cable in the box. I intend to start building next week once the motherboard arrives. Any idea will the relevant cables be included with the mobo or should I pick one up separately?
Honestly that's pretty solid. Only thing I'd really change is cutting the SSD and the HDD and replacing them with something like a ~500 GB MX300 or
Samsung 750(or if you can find something equivalent for less it should be good). That'll depend a bit more on your use case though; if you want to do something like video editing or music production you'll need the extra storage, but for just playing games and Netflix-and-chilling ~500 GB should be plenty and you'll appreciate the faster speed compared to mechanical drives.As I said though, the rest seems really decent and should be fine for the games you want to play.
edit: the 750 is way too expensive to really justify tbh

Yeah but why get a 500gb ssd when that can only hold like 10-15 games. I also have a 2tb external and games run flawlessly. How much faster do you want your xbox to load up? Not really a huge issue that instead of a 3 second boot on a ssd, it takes 10 seconds on a HDD. And for gameplay, I can wait 10 seconds for a map to load instead it loading at 3 seconds.
$200 for a ssd made for "xbox", no thanks. I can get a 8tb external HDD for $200.
Also, 100% of ssd/hdd can be used as an external for xbox. You don't need a special one for "xbox". So instead of paying 200 for seagate's SSD. You can get one for 120 here.
