The wife tried to convince me to buy it for years but I'm such a cheap bastard I kept resisting. She eventually convinced me after about 2 years and it's amazing! The cat goes in, does its thing, leaves and in a few minutes it automatically bags the poop. It needs very little cleaning and maintenance.
Maybe they could write this off as a business expenditure ;)
I have one and it works really well.
I've read some horror stories like one guy's cat would simply walk in and poop with its butt out onto the step, but mine seem to walk in a circle a few times before poking their heads out and going.
With litter box cleaning out of the way, I'm sure they would have no problem over weekends since food and water is pretty easy.

you should get a litter robot
I have a cat, and if you can afford it, I would seriously consider investing in a litter robot like this. You use waaaay less litter and it smells so much less. I especially recommend it if you plan on getting multiple cats.
They are expensive, but this is the best goddamn cat shit box made by man. This thing is clean, reliable and doesn't smell, except when you're emptying the bag.
