Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes is releasing on Fantasy Grounds May 18th. Their releases usually coincide exactly with the pre-release. So... pre-release on May 18th

Coming to Fantasy Grounds May 18
We are happy to announce the next big release from Wizards of the Coast. The master magician Mordenkainen has amassed information on many of the biggest conflicts in the D&D multiverse such as those between elves, gith, devils and demons.
The Fantasy Grounds version is expected to be $29.99 and will feature an integrated reference manual, NPCs, new races, dynamic story templates and tokens.

This Amazon product page seems to indicate the regular release is on May 29th.

I preordered in early April. I've now had an update saying it will be delivered between the 9th of July and the 8th of August.

I emailed to complain, they said sorry and gave me £10 amazon credit. They said I want to cancel my preorder I still can and suggested I could still buy it on amazon from another seller. I'm still deciding what to do.

Looks like HOTDQ and Rise of Tiamat are also on sale for around $20:

The Book of The Righteous. A book all about Dnd pantheons, almost entirely lore, with some mechanical stuff as extras. This is probably the one I'd recommend most given the concentration of lore(plus cool pictures and stuff).

The Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide. Mostly lore about the Sword Coast, a region in the forgotten realms. It's almost all lore, with some mechanical stuff towards the end.

Volo's Guide to Monsters. About half the book is the lore of certain monster races, and the other half is monster stat blocks.

Mordenkainen's tome of Foes. It isn't out till May 29, but it's supposed to be largely lore about the plains and various cosmic conflicts throughout time, and then several more monster stat blocks.

I recommend going into a local game shop and seeing which of these they have and flipping through them to get an idea of what they're like and which ones interest you the most. Also this is only listing some of the books from the most recent edition (5e), largely because they tend to be the prettiest(design has improved significantly over time). Past editions are absolutely full of books about everything to do with anything you could want in the dnd multiverse.

Here's an Amazon price history on the book. It's below average right now, but it has been lower.

Either way, I don't feel right about upvoting "deals" accounts and their affiliate links. All too often, they post an item at its normal price as if it's a fleeting sale to get the kickback. It isn't your buddy posting DnD content, it's someone trying to profit from your purchase with the minimum of their own time invested.

That's so nice of you to be doing that for your DM! I know you are asking about an adventure or such, but might I recommend Mordenkainens Tome of Foes? It is filled with lore and content so he can expand upon his already existent universe while also not feel like you are railroading him to a certain adventure.

That said there are tons of other options to do for him. Like what was a memorable moment in a campaign you shared together? Or maybe buy him some special dice that are used for special occasions (like final death saving throw or a save that can change the tide of a battle etc) I like Dice Envy and am saving up for the new dice "Horcrux" from them as they look really cool. (and yes I definitely have a dice problem like so many others on here)
