I use this Amazon - Dakine Backpack to strap my board to when I'm walking for any distance (e.g. office or a metro station). No complaints from me for the quality, but the board wheels may hang a little low for some.
It can handle a laptop, couple reference books, and skate tools. I wouldn't keep lunch in it when I have the reference books though.
I figure that this parallels your use case.
Might want to give a few more details about what you're looking for... Especially since aesthetics are a personal preference. And I have no idea what makes the Obed Bag ugly and the Evolve Bag good to you.

I got myself one of those and couldn't be happier. Sure it's not a full coverage bag, but i have no problem using that bag on NJ Transit overhead storage racks. Cheap and effective.
EDIT: well, it was $36 when i bought it, looks like it's $39 as of this edit.

I have this one, I like how the straps are reinforced to hold a heavier eskate. Most longboards are going to hit you in the ass everytime you walk though.
