It is, without a doubt, the best. You can usually find it cheaper in the compilation "DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore".

However, if you want coloring/shading that is much improved over the original, check out The Killing Joke: Deluxe Edition.

Great Knowledge! I came here to flex my Nerd, as well! I would humbly suggest reading "DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore" trade paper back. It has the Sups stories, as well as other By Moore, inclueding one of the best GL stories and a Great Bats story

The reprint of The Killing Joke in the second edition of DC Universe: The Collected Stories of Alan Moore has the original coloring, and all of his major non-Watchman/non-Swamp Thing DC work, too. It's a great volume, much better than the first or third editions.

This collection of Alan Moore's DC short stories from 2006.

If you want the book by itself, you might be able to find it on eBay. Look for any printing from before 2008.

If anyone wants, the original coloring can be found at this link for a really fantastic deal. It's a whole Alan Moore collection, with original Killing Joke, for $20. It was my best birthday gift ever. I bought it used "Good", and it came practically in new condition.

I would advise against getting the version titled "DC Universe by Alan Moore". There's a 2006 version called: "DC Universe: The stories of Alan Moore". The only difference is the 2006 version includes :The Killing Joke. Which is arguably His most famous one-shot.

Here are some of the best Superman books I've ever read.

All Star Superman, already been covered.
Red Son, already been covered as well.
Death of Superman/World Without a Superman/Return of Superman is essential to the overall story of Superman.
DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore, a great volume all around, has Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow in it. Classic read.
Both Man of Steel and Superman For All Seasons are cool retellings of the origin story.

And if you're a Batman fan, I HIGHLY recommend Superman/Batman Generations. This is the story of the friendship between Batman and Superman that starts when they meet in 1930s and continues for decades as both characters age and mature over the years. One of my personal faves.

Nice. There is an out of print book called DC Universe: Tales By Alan Moore that collects this story plus a few other stories with various characters (Superman, Green Lanterns, Vigilante). Some local comic shops might still have it in stock, but be careful if you do buy it because some other the newer prints omit this story. You'll know you have the right book if the Joker is on the cover. Here's a link to what it looks like on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1401209270/ref=redir_mdp_mobile

It also collects the stories he did where he introduced Mogo, and the Abin Sur story where he created the 5 inversions, Sodam Yat, and name dropped an event known as 'The Blackest Night'. You also get the Killing Joke, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tommorrow?, For the Man Who Has Everything, and a few other fun stories. One of the best TPBs you can spend your money on.

It's included in this book, which is a phenomenal collection.

No idea about the Watchmen one. But this TPB has The Killing Joke. Only the paperback edition has it, not the hardcover one. Look into that before buying, as there are a lot of "DC by Alan Moore" books around.

If you aren't getting it for the extras and rather mostly just the story, instead of Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow you should be getting DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore. It includes that story as well as Killing Joke and all of the DC main universe hero stories he wrote during the mid 80's (i.e NOT Swamp Thing). His other stuff is less well known but most of it is good and all of it is interesting.

You might also want to look into this. I haven't read the collection, but it has some pretty good classics of a bunch of different characters. Might be just what you're looking for.

I highly recommend this trade for Alan Moore's DC work. I got it for Killing Joke and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? It also has Moore's For the Man Who Has Everything(there's a episode that adapted this on JLU which is on netflix and Moore actually likes it) as well as a handful of other stories like Green Arrow, Superman vs The Swamp Thing, and some other ones I can't remember.

All Star Superman's amazing. If you enjoy it, you should follow it up with Morrison's Action Comics as it's the same writer. It has more of Morrison's faults as a writer but it's an origin story and is a take on Golden Age Superman with some silver age insanity.

And everyone should read Superman: Red Son at least once. The ending is an amazing Superman moment that cuts to the heart of a character even in a radically different Elseworlds.

Not an omnibus, but I think this Alan Moore collection is great. I got it really cheap, but apparently there are a few different versions around so be careful if you look around for it.
