I highly recommend this book to everyone
So, David Lee Roth was able to devise an ingeniously simple way to figure out within a few seconds whether or not a venue read the contract, requiring no additional employees or overhead.
And the government is similar because it enacts huge buearcracies with hundreds of employees, overlapping laws/regulations, and unclear distinctions... How is that similar?
One is simple, genius, and cost-effective. The other is huge, bureaucratic, and inefficient.
Here's a better explanation of David Lee Roth's M&M clause. It's also used as a case in the new book, Decisive, written by Chip and Dan Heath. It wasn't just about lights, it was about the whole production. Van Halen used like 9 semi-trailers to transport all their equipment, when other groups used 2. Van Halen had to set up quickly, since they did shows across the country in new venues all the time. If things weren't absolutely perfect, you could put hundreds of people in danger. Thus, the brilliance of the M&M clause.

Heath brothers do good work as well. A bit more casual, makes for good commute reading.
Nah, buy this instead if you are in this mindset. https://www.amazon.com/Decisive-Make-Better-Choices-Life/dp/0307956393
