I used these liquid gilding paints for the metallic bases (which worked great), black acrylic for the iron base (worked less great, should have used primer), and watered down acrylics of the same type for the washes. I need to learn about actual miniature paints if I'm gonna do anything beyond these guys...

Thanks! I'm excited for you, its a really fun game!

I didn't buy a particular set of paints, just what I had around already and some I bought piecemeal off of Amazon. That said, DecoArt Americana is a good brand to use.

And yes, I did a base coat first (red, yellow, green, and blue) then painted on top. Its not necessary (I was able to paint one without) but it definitely saves time.
