Portability + power is a bit of an issue. That said, here are some sub-$1500 suggestions from Amazon:

• Inspiron 7000 with GTX 1050, $678--all-around decent option for the price. It might be worth opting for the one with the SSD, although it's a bit more expensive. You could also just install a SSD yourself (should set you back less than the upgrade at checkout).

This will run FF14 at the highest settings, and if you install it in the SSD it will also increase load times by a factor of 4. It can run most current games around mid-high settings as well.

Well, there is Acer's Predator Helios 300. I've been searching for a while now and i found it really great, looking at its price (1050$ on Amazon), It's specs are really good too, with a GTX 1060 6g gpu, an i7-7700 cpu, 16g of ram and a 256 ssd. And there is the Dell inspiron 15 with almost the same specs (half the ssd and and extra 1T HDD) but it costs an extra 100$.


Im really confused between those two laptops since my budget is limited and i could use the additional 100$ on the dell's to get a gaming mouse and headphones,.. etc. I've seen a bunch of reviews on both, and they seem to be fine, so - even with the bad previous experience with Acer- I'm still leaning toward their gaming laptop (purely because of the 100$ tho).

This Dell laptop and this ACER laptop seem to be around your price range and have decent specs.

According to this review, the fan is quiet even gaming.

If you want a beast yet nice laptop, maybe this is better. Great build quality over here, for sure.

This one is good also, but I prefer Dell's.

That being said, if you don't want hardcore ultra graphics in new games, the ultrabook from Asus is easily one of the best options, as well as a HP Envy 13 with MX150 (not available right now as far as I can see, but you can see specs here).

Unfortunately the Acer Helios 300 was on sale for $1000 just yesterday afternoon, but has gone back up ("Cyber Monday") to just under $1,200.

Not sure what the tax would be like to import, but it's still a great deal. It does run a little hot, so I hear, though.

For about $60 cheaper, you can get the Dell G5587. 1050 Ti vs. 1060, half the SSD space but 1 TB HDD (You can add more space to the Helios as well), same RAM, and you lose the 144 Hz refresh rate.

The Helios is ~2.5kg to the Dell's ~2.85kg as well. Not a huge difference either way, but the Helios is lighter. If you're looking for ~$1,000 after import fees, you're gonna be hard-pressed to find a laptop with your specifications. Just the 1050Ti 'spec' alone ends up being over $1000 on most anything I found.

Actually the Dell Inspiron i7577 might match most of what you want. Great cooling system, only $900, GTX 1060 GC, 128 SSD (I believe this is easily upgradeable), 1TB HDD, and i5 processor. Only 8 GB RAM (again, pretty sure it's easily upgradeable) and it's not the i7 you wanted, but otherwise a really good deal as well. I nearly purchased this one. Same weight as the other Dell.

Its a 15.6 inch laptop, so I would say it is still portable.

E: Forgot to add, it's 900 USD, so you could use the extra $100 to either add another 8GB stick of RAM or save a little bit more and swap the HDD with a 500GB SSD.

The closest you'd get to a GTX 1060 would be the Dell i7577 (~$979 USD). It has been recommended a lot.

For a laptop to cost that much, you better be getting some good internal parts like a high end graphics card, ex. a GTX 1070 or 1080. Sometimes you're paying extra just for the brand name (Apple, Alienware, Razer, etc.).

You can get a laptop for $800-1000 probably that would crush this game. Anything that's super expensive probably is super high end that would only benefit you if the monitor screen had higher refresh rates to support the increased high fps.

For example here's a laptop that has a GTX 1060 6GB graphics card in it for $950. I have the same graphics card for my desktop tower PC. It can run this game max settings and can deal with my 144hz monitor. You can definitely go lower in terms of power and still run the game at high to medium settings. Try looking for a GTX 970 in a laptop if you want something cheaper that will run the game fine.

I would recommend posting an inquiry like this to r/SuggestALaptop but since you’ve posted this here I’ll give you my two cents. The Dell Inspiron 15 7577 and similar laptops by Dell might be an interesting look. Has very similar specs to the one you were looking at with a great price to boot. In this link through Amazon it states it ships to Canada but it has a pretty high shipping and import fee. I own one personally if you have questions; though I’d look at older posts in some other subreddits to get better information. Generally, if you have a question usually someone else had the same one. If you’re willing to go up to $1000, a new Dell i7577 will run you $950, which had a better GPU than the i7567 you mentioned. This i7577 can often be found for less through factory reconditioning too, I’ve seen as low as $700

Here's the cheapest GTX 1060 laptop currently on Amazon... It's $1065 right now, but it also only has an i5 7300HQ and 8gb of RAM (the other option had 16gb and an i7 7700HQ). It's also 5.8lbs, and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't call that "light".

Decent gamig laptop prices have definitely jumped. About a year ago you could get a few GTX 1060/7700HQ laptops for $900-$950. Now it seems like most of them have all jumped to $1200+.

If you're prepared to play games at minimum settings, A GTX 1050 and 1050 TI would serve your purposes very well. I would browse around on Amazon for a 1050 TI laptop for $700-$800. I have seen a few.

Second, try reading the subreddit sidebar, it is a form according to which the people recommending you are supposed to understand what you require. It also helps you to understand the stuff that differentiate laptops(doesn't go into technical stuff, you don't need to know which cpu/gpu you need in your laptop).


Since you say gaming, GPU is what mainly defines your laptop performance, followed by the cpu, the second most important thing for gaming. But you probably will also be doing simple stuff like browsing,etc, so battery life is generally the next big thing.

This is the best all around bang for buck. Above this price , value for money keeps reducing considerably.

$1000 can not only buy you a laptop that will run Fortnite perfectly, but a laptop that can run any game out there without issue. I've since moved on to a desktop but I got a laptop 7 months ago for 900 bucks with an i7 and a GTX 1060. It could run anything I threw at it, most of the time on the highest settings. Hell, my work issued laptop only has a GTX 1050 in it which is a pretty shit card and it can still play Fortnite at higher framerate than an Xbox.

So the quad core i5 should be perfectly fine for what you need, the 1060 might be more powerful than what you need, and great for gaming if you want to game, the 128gb ssd will making loading programs very fast, and the 1tb HDD gives you space to store everything. Really anything with these specs for around this price is a good deal. I highly recommend going with something like this over a Mac. With a Mac, you're spending way more money for a machine that's not nearly as powerful.

Edit: so I see you listed a 256gb ssd and 16gb of ram as what you'd like, but you also mentioned being on a tight budget, but without knowing what that budget is, I can only guess. If you're willing to spend a little more money, you can get very similar laptops with the ram and ssd you need.

I have a Dell Inspiron 7577 Gaming Laptop and I'm beyond happy. Dell over all is my recommendation for a gaming laptop, they tend to have the best reputation for it from what I can tell. I have 4 laptop recommendations, a Dell Inspiron 7567 or a 7577. Though the 7577 has a better GPU, but both have an older 7th Gen CPU and Nvidia is releasing their next generation soon so be aware that in a few months they will be replaced with 8th gen versions and Volta GPUs. You can also get an Acer swift 5 with an mx150 which already has an 8th gen CPU and I don't think Nvidia is going to upgrade the GPU yet. Or you can get an HP x360 cause it's pretty much exactly like the Acer swift 5 in performance but it's a convertible, and it will have a longer lifespan cause it's newer.

That makes sense. I'm actually looking at a dell i7577 right now as well. How would this stack up against the HP? Does it make sense to get a better gpu with an i5 instead?

Wouldn't it be better to just get a laptop if you are going to travel a lot? I know this is the build a pc sub but it just seems impractical. A laptop has everything in one small package and you don't need to carry all the extra stuff. I know it wont perform as well but there is a convenience trade off.
