Dell UltraSharp U2515H goes for 280$ on amazon.

In that price range it's as good as it gets for multi purpose monitor. Good size, pixel density, IPS, 1440p makes opening lots of windows easy. And the design is great!

There's also 23.8" version for $225, but I find it a tad too small for 1440p.

$308.99 on Amazon

Also if you don't care about the giftcard it's on amazon also.

I use this Dell U2515Hx and my girlfriend uses the new version Dell U2518D. Great monitors. I prefer the 25" 1440p over the 27" 1440p because the pixel density is higher so everything is much more sharp.

Depends on what your 'affordable' is because I can pick something out like this Dell Ultrasharp that's 1440p and IPS. That may be out of your price range though and I don't know what kind of video card you have (or if it's integrated graphics).

I just bought this one and have been pretty happy with it. Dell UltraSharp U2515Hx 25" Screen LED-Lit Monitor, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0LDXTL/

I would go for this and then maybe sell it or sue it as a a duel monitor if you get another one.

I mean this would be great for a year and it is cheap plus has great colors. Personally i dont have one of these but the reviews are great for it. Remember you would only be stuck with this temporarily if you wanted to.

I was actually looking into that one, and I found another model "UD2515hx", do you know the difference?

Not a lot in your budget, but I'd start with a Dell U2515H ($280 on Amazon)-- then get a i1Display Pro later.

At the bottom of the TFTCentral link, you may find other monitors with similar performance; I didn't look up the prices though.

The monitor I'm looking at is a 25" one because that's all my desk can reasonably fit. At 4K native resolution on a 25" screen, won't everything look kinda small?

I was looking at Dell UltraSharp U2515Hx, but the 27in seems so expensive! Is the difference between 25" vs 27" that big?

Should I get a 27" 1080p monitor or a 25" 1440p monitor? Both seem to be excellent choices, but the 1440p is nearly twice as much (I'd like to stay under $300). I have the Asus RX 480 04G gpu.

Here the 1080p: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ITORMDC/ref=psdc_1292115011_t1_B00IZBIMLK

And the 1440p: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515Hx-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01M0LDXTL/ref=as_li_ss_tl?tag=highgroundgaming-20&th=1&linkCode=sl1&linkId=2cf66270caa13ea9ae43e46374354961
