Hi! I've completed two stocking and am working on a third. I wouldn't call myself an expert by any means, but I do love to cross stitch. Are you making one of the dimensions kits? The two i made are from them and I like it. My advice would be to stitch as many solid figures as you can before starting on more nebulous sections. So for example, I'm currently working on this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JFAHMPC/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1478324496&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dimensions+stocking+kit&dpPl=1&dpID=51cUL29KL9L&ref=plSrch and so I made sure to finish all of Santa and his reindeer before I worked on the sky. Another pointer is to divide the pattern into less intimidating sections so that you can do it a bite at a time.

As for finishing, I put some iron-on backing to protect the stitches, and I bought my own fabric for the actual stocking. I don't like what the kit comes with, really.

Good luck on your stitching, it's so worth it when you're done!

It's this one (bought off amazon) https://www.amazon.com/Dimensions-Crafts-Needlecrafts-Collection-Stocking/dp/B00JFAHMPC/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1480916612&sr=8-11&keywords=dimensions+stocking

If I could just get more DMC floss that are the same colors I could definitely make this work.

I'm working on a Dimensions stocking, this one in particular, that I started easily three years ago.

But I made a GIGANTIC MISTAKE, and about 15% of the way through, I realized I was using DOUBLE the amount of strands (since I was folding them over so the tails met at the end). No wonder it was SO HARD to get the needle through!

After letting in collect dust in my closet for like two years, I picked up back up again, ordered the SAME KIT so I would have enough thread, and I'm working on it again now. My goal is to FINISH, even if it takes me another three years!
