I know it can seem like you're getting hate for Dishonored based on the responses you got, but keep in mind some very important stats about Reddit:
In my experience, haters tend to be more vocal/active than people who are neutral/positive about something. So for all you know, tons of people who do like Dishonored saw your posts; but of the very few who actually have accounts, the negative ones responded.
As of this writing, Dishonored has an average rating of 4.5 stars from almost 400 reviews just for the Xbox version alone on Amazon (not to mention praise, honors, and awards from critics). It just doesn't make logical sense that a game with that much positive reception is actually hated by a lot of people.
TL;DR: You're probably just dealing with a vocal minority.
Edit: The # of reviews I initially gave is for just the Xbox version...PlayStation rating is 4.5 from over 230 reviews, and PC has 4 stars from over 100 reviews. So, from a total of over 700 reviews across all systems, the average rating is 4.3.

Happy Halloween to you!
Really, most of my gaming recently has been on the PC, because I made the mistake of picking up Civ 5: Gold Edition during the Steam sale last month.
I say 'made a mistake' because every time I have a bit of time I'm not doing something else, I'm sucked into my laptop playing Civ. I get ANGRY when I don't get my achievements unlocked. I multitask because it's a turn-based game, so I can do my turn, walk away and switch over laundry or do dishes, and come back.
I know I'm supposed to be convincing you to buy this game, but if you value your sanity and free time: don't. You will be sucked in. You, as Napoleon, Washington, Dido, Theodora, Ghandi, whomever... will play game after game in an attempt to take over the world by military conquest, cultural victory, or badass science.
Just one more turn.
Just one more turn...
...one more...
If you wanted to drag me away from Civ 5, Dishonored for the 360 would rock. I've been meaning to play it, I hear good things.
It's really hard to pick a favorite game, since I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember... but I think my favorite game is Dragon Age: Origins. I got extremely emotionally involved in it, and I was so attached to the characters (especially Alistair!)
For my game choice I would love Dishonored http://www.amazon.com/Dishonored-Xbox-360/dp/B005C2D2MO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3CUFHXXQBJRIG&coliid=I1QOA29ZQ1WPWJ
By the way, Eggplant Wizard
