31 days for Augustus

I don't love or hate August. However, my favorite riddle as a kid had to do with August, so here it is:

There once was a puppy named August.

He liked picking on other animals.

One day, he got in a fight with a lion.

The next day was the first day of September. Why?

Because that was the last day of August.

(I know, as I type this out, I realize how dark this is, but it was my favorite riddle when I was little)
